Exercise

Hey everyone! New rott owner here. I have a new 8 wk male and female (brother and sister). I'll explain a little more about my background in another post.

Anyways, my quick question is how much exercise time should the puppies get at 8 wk every day? I give them play/exercise time each day but how much is to much and how much is not enough. I know there isn't a definite "time limit" but do I let them play/exercise until they just lay down and fall asleep or should I limit their play times during the day?

Re: Exercise

First of all, please read this post and make sure you really want to take on two puppies at one time. It can be very hard, very tedious and if not done correctly, can result in ill-mannered, unsocialized dogs.

http://www.rottweiler.net/forums/pol...pies-once.html

That being said, they should be separated, and not live together 24/7. They need to learn that they can live alone and that you will be their main focus of attention. Puppies do not need each other for company, they should be looking towards you for all of that, hence the questioning on why you purchased two youngsters at once.

They each need their separate time with you for training and socialization. This does not happen with two puppies at the same time. You don't want them to grow up looking towards each other for clues as to how to behave or how to interract with people and other animals.

Since they are bro and sister, I am assuming you will be spaying/neutering at the proper ages in order to prevent an accidential breeding?

Good luck with them, please post pics when you can. Welcome to the forums.

Re: Exercise

I agree 2 pups at once WoW Gypsy and my older dogs are enough to handle, what I did with her at that age is short play time, then potty, then she would sleep alot, but she loved romping in the yard chasing butterflies LoL where did all the time go?

May I ask why you chose to take on the task of 2 pups?? just curious

Re: Exercise

actually the boy is for my parents and I'm going to keep the girl. I just have both of them till tomorrow and yeah they are a hand full lol. But I was expecting it to be. And yes they both will be spayed and neutered. So 15-20 mins playtime outside a few times a day is good?

Re: Exercise

You bet! Glad to hear that they are both not your own dogs. They will be so much better off in different households and their playtimes can be scheduled so they can have fun together, but not live together.

This is assuming that you don't live with your parents, right?
