Baby teeth and Perm teeth

Belair ( 5month old female, 53lbs, 20 inches at the withers) has her permanent canines coming in but the baby teeth are not falling out. At this point she looks like a croc!!!

I am leaning towards calling the vet tomorrow and getting her in to be seen, but is this something that any of you have experience? Or do you have some good advice?

She does not seem to be in any type of pain, chews on her toys like crazy ( so far no furniture or anything that she should not!!!)

She does allow me to inspect her mouth when she is sitting, but seems to love having her gums rubbed.

Thanks for all your good help and advice, this is perhaps the best thing that I got for my Rottie!!!! These chat rooms are perhaps the most informative and the friendliest.

Tadley

This is not uncommon. I would let her keep chewing on things (maybe even play tug with her with a coarse-fabric'd toy). They usually come out on their own. If it gets to be a few weeks and they're still not out, then get her looked at.

Thanks Boston,

Chewing and pulling seem to be the favorite past times the last week, so perhaps she is trying to teach me something. Thanks for quelling my fears and anxiety.

Re: Baby teeth and Perm teeth

Seeker has the 2 puppy canines on the top to lose and her adult ones are coming in. The bottom ones fell out last week, but went from one day not being really loose at all to the next day falling out.

One of her littermates had the vet remove them last week since their vet was a little concerned about it. I don't think they needed to do that, they are just 21 weeks old, but they opted to side with the vet.

Playing tug helps, as does chewing bones.

Keep and eye on them, but I think you will be surprised one morning - there will be no puppy canines.

Re: Baby teeth and Perm teeth

Wow- there must be Rottie ESP going on...I logged in about to do a search on baby teeth and saw this new post! I had a mini-heart attack last night- Sebastian was chewing on a bone with full gusto for about an hour and then I saw the bone had some blood on it. Next to him on the floor I also noticed a tooth! Looks like a molar- I saved it. I freaked because I thought he was done with teething and that all his baby teeth had come out already. I took away his bone let him chew something soft.

This morning we were playing tug with one of those braided ropes and then again- another tooth- a molar- came out. I checked him mouth and it was one from each side.

Sebastian is 5 months old-- His incisors are first coming in now. Unless someone comments otherwise; I am assuming all is ok with his back teeth that came out. Should bones and tug toys be avoided though I wonder? He bled quite a bit last night which freaked me out!!!

Sounds like Sebastian is doing just fine, the timing is perfectly normal (molars are usually last to change out).

I have not avoided tugs or bones, unless a dog is indicating pain (and I haven't had any of those yet). Vikka lost 2 molars (at once) on a puppy tug at SchH one day. Never caused her any problems with future tug work (or currently, sleeve work).

Re: Baby teeth and Perm teeth

Does this mean my kid is a dog? As I was reading this my 7 year old came downstairs and gave me a tooth.
