I am really worried....

I noticed recently that my 9 month old girl, seems quite stiff in the rear end. But I figured maybe she just was going through a stage.
I walked her tonight, which she seems to hate being walked, but does it to just please me.
We got back, and she seemed to be moving slower and slower in the end.
She laid down, and was napping, and I woke her to take her out in the yard to get some air, while I had a cigarette, and she cried as she stood up, and was having a hard time. She was kinda limping in the rear end, and really stiff looking.
Like she is having a hard time walking. Isn't she young for this?

Re: I am really worried....

My almost 9 month old never slows down on our almost 1 mile walks. If she started showing that behavior frequently, combined with the crying I would definitely see my vet ASAP. It could be any number of things and since you know she's in pain due to her crying I would think you'd want to do whatever you can to help her. It takes a lot for a rottie to cry out that way, they are well known for hiding illness and pain.

Get her to the vet tomorrow, early as possible. You could give her a buffered aspirin in the meantime to help with the pain. We can't diagnose vie the 'net, but I will certainly be praying for you and your little girl!

Re: I am really worried....

have her vet see her and ask to xray her hips.ASAP.
this is a good age to get a prelim to see if there is dysplacia, growing pains,or ligament injury.
i would not give her any drugs until properly diagnosed.

Just an FYI (and no ill-will intended ), my vet has told me that a buffered aspirin is very safe and would be helpful in the event of a muscular or joint-type injury until the dog could be brought in for an examination. But by all means, if this makes the OP uncomfortable, then they should ask their vet before doing so.

Re: I am really worried....

I am waiting for the vets to open. I noticed this morning, she is actually favoring/limping on her left rear leg only. I thought it was both lastnight.
Almost seems as though she pulled a muscle.
Not as bad as lastnight, but she still is favoring that left rear.
I cannot wait for the vet to get in, this is making me nuts....

Good thoughts coming your way from me and my gang! Please let us know what the vet says when you get a chance.

Might be a cruciate tear, make sure your vet does the drawer test to see if it is. Let us know what he says and good luck.

Re: I am really worried....

Duke is only showed signs of HD in his left leg. And thats what hip they did the surgery on his right has HD but not nearly has bad as the left. That is EXACTLY what Duke did before I found out he has Hd. He would cry when getting up and would always lay down on walks ect. Then for a few days he seemed fine then back to the stiffness and the crying when getting up. Melonie

Re: I am really worried....

My wife cannot get her into the vet until tomorrow. I am sick over this. She is up and about today, but still crying time to time, and favoring her left rear leg.
I gave her some baby aspirin, since the nurse on the phone told me to do that.
I hope this is just maybe a pulled muscle or something.

Re: I am really worried....

Athena went to the vet, thank gawd, he said she seemed to sprain a muscle.

Still seems funny to me that she has always seemed stiff in the rear end when walking, but he said she is fine....Hope he is right.

Re: I am really worried....

Did the vet take an xray of her hips? Perform the drawer test on her knee? If no to both then he gave you an opinion only. I would be back there asking for an xray and a knee test
