the zoomies

izzy seems to get the zoomies every day, despite what i believe it adequate exercise (two 15-20 minute walks at the end of which he is TIRED), several play sessions of fetch, and training sessions.
he will run at full speed from room to room, outside and in again, doing laps just for the hell of it.
is this a "rottie thing"?

Re: the zoomies

I miss the puppy zoomies

It is a very normal DOG behaviour, grab a video camera, and get out of the way and enjoy!!!

Re: the zoomies

how long do these "zoomies" last?
it has nothing to do with lack of excercise?
My fur baby only seems to do it when company is around so they look at me like "gosh, train your dog!" I hate always having to put her up when i have guest.

Re: the zoomies

No, completely normal. Gunner got zoomies the other day!!!! He hasn't had zoomie-ZOOMIES in awhile!

A really god tip about the "getting outta the way part"!!! LOL!

Your Izzy is proabbly getting some size on him (5 months-coorect?) and soon he'll be able to give you a zoomie knock down!!! Zoomies are also very common after bath time-just accept it LOL! Dry him of the best you can and the wind from his zoomies will do the rest!!!!Nothing to do with lack of ex. or we'd all be in trouble!

Re: the zoomies

yes, he's growing sooo fast - he must be nearing 50 pounds by now. he used to be able to sit sphinx-like on center console of the car - now only one of his forearms fit on it.
i've also started to notice that when we take him out walking, people aren't quite as keen to "pat the nice puppy" ... haha
we gave him a bath yesterday and he had the most ferocious zoomies ever! it was hysterical, this half-soaked dog (i barely got the towel around him) tearing around the house with this wild and cheeky look in his eyes ...

Oh yeah ... The after bath zoomies are usually the most energetic zoomies at least in our house...

Re: the zoomies

Lola now 18 months takes off with a wicked case of the zoomies every now and then. Usually when she does, it will soon be time for a poop. She likes to be chased before she goes but, if no one is available to chase her,she will take laps around the dining room. I once had a welcome mat that plainly said, THE DOG IS NUTS. It was right out side the front door. Enough said.

Re: the zoomies

Aw-w-w-w... Do you want them to stop? I think it's part of what makes Rottweilers so endearing! They are not the only breed who choose this particular phenomenon thru which to express "sheer joy!"

And no, two 20 min walks are not enough for 5 month puppy. He needs some games or training with which to utilize and stimulate his mind. Hide something and have him "find it!" At first the game has to be more visible, but as he catches on you can truly hide things.

Re: the zoomies

oh, he has at least two "formal" training sessions a day, as well as playtime - tug, fetch, hide-and-seek, etc etc. his mind is most certainly kept busy ...

This is a dog thing, not just rotties. Serena gets the zoomies AFTER the walk! She has them as I type this so I better go play.

Re: the zoomies

Zoomies... I miss zoomies! Nina always had the zoomies until about 5. Rogan still has them, but always and only after baths. They are so much fun. Enjoy them and if you can, get video!

Re: the zoomies

LOL, work has nothing to do with them....every night we come home from obedience, like clockwork, Daisy jumps out of her crate, bolts into the front yard, and runs zoomie figure 8's.

Re: the zoomies

Arwen gets the zoomies a couple times a day at 1.5 years old. ALWAYS in the house. Not only do I get out of the way, I have attendecy to make a mad dash across the room after she passes to move OTHER stuff out of her way (coffee table, desk chair, shoe). She gets them after ANY bath, first thing after she is let out of her box, and sometimes, just because.

Yesterday we saw our first set of puppy zoomies in the back yard. It was fenced in about 5 or 6 weeks ago (I think) and she usually just sniffs around or plays fetch. Yesterday she was full out running in a circle around me!! zoomies as fast as she could untill she ran to the door and flopped over on the step to go inside for water. it was sooooooo cute!!
