Thumbs up Puppy Biting

My puppy, Silvio, is 10 weeks old. I have read posts from owners with puppy's much older and am wondering if the same answers apply to Silvio. He constantly attacks family members pants legs (we have 2 children, myself and my fiance). When this happens we say, "NO" and he doesnt let go. Then we take his mouth and try to get him to let go. Doesnt work. Now I put him into his crate when he does this and take him out 5 min later. Immediately he starts again, growling and pulling.
He already tore up two pants of mine and one of my fiance's. What is the best way to discourage this behavior? How long will he be doing this?

Re: Puppy Biting

Well he's a puppy, that's what puppies do. Diversion and wearing him out work better, so try substituting a favorite toy, invent a new game, or toss a ball. I find they enjoy running after a rolling or tossed ball. Uses up some of that seemingly unending supply of energy they have, at that age.

For puppies I like to take a water bottle, put half a handful of kibble in it, seal it and tie inside a piece of fleece or an old shirt sleeve. I braid and knot the ends shut and attatch to a piece of string and a stick. Now play a fishing game.

Play "fetch" or "monkey in the middle," just make sure he gets a turn to actually have the item. Get him to play with his "favorite toy." Be creative and fun. The fishing game works. Now try "hide and seek..." you hide, and call his name! Play "find it!"

Now, hit the upper search button and type in puppy biting. This should help you find a number of similar threads.
