Talking Training lead, books

Would like to hear your opinions on books for puppy training (rottweiler) and what kind of lead. Here is a little background on the pups: The two pups, one male, one female, were rescued from animal control. They had been left at the owners house OUTSIDE in the crate with mom. They are 3 1/2 - 4mos. old. When we got them they seemed like they were neglected and never handled, (except possibly roughly, they freeze if you grab there collars). I was looking for a harness, (around the neck, and mid section) so that I dont feel like im going to pop there head off trying to teach them to walk. Anyone have any opinion on this type of lead/collar from petsmart? Holt No-Tug Dog Harness

Re: Training lead, books

I bought 2 for my girls and haven't noticed any significant less pulling. The one thing that seems to work for Pandy is being a tree. Of course I used this over a regular harness, since I don't use a collar, and that could prevent it effectivness.

The harness you are looking at will put pressure on their neck. I also don't like that it uses a thin line, which can create chafing if they are persistent about pulling. My choice of a harness while teaching them to walk on lead would be this one, along with a pocket full of treats and lots of praise to encourage them to come along, and stay near you while walking:
