Leash/Walking - Help

I have two 9 week old rotty X's, male named buddy and female named penny they are littler mates. They are trained separately and taken for walks separately. Penny goes for walks and does excellent on the leash, when its walk time she sits at the door and is ready to go. Buddy on the other hand is un-willing to leave the front lawn. I open the door he walks out, walks out onto the lawn and sits there. When you quickly yank on the chain, it gets his attention but he is unwilling to move. If you try to pull on the leash he pulls the other way and makes a high pitch squealing noise. The only way I have been able to get him to go on the walks is if I pick him up and walk way down the block out of view of the house, then he is fine and goes on the walk.

How do I get him to move off the lawn without picking him up? I have tried using treats to get him to move but he just runs over to get the treat and then sits back down.

Welcome to the forums.
Sounds like you have your hands full, getting two puppies at once. It is good that you are walking them seperately. Do you have them crated seperately as well??

I hope you do NOT have choke chains on them yet? They are way to young for such a training collar. Put a nice, soft nylon collar on them...they do not need corrections...everything should be positive and fun. For your male pup...let him drag around a soft leash in the house. Keep an eye on him, but he will soon get used to the idea.

As far as being afraid to get off the lawn.... does he usually follow you around? Most puppies follow, if you run. Try some better treats...something he really will like...bits of chicken weiners or chicken or cheese...and lure him off of the lawn. Even a few steps each time is good.

He may be insecure...and uncomfortable out of his own world. Have you been taking him to different places? Socializing in different areas? This is the way to build up his confidence.

Also, sign them up for Puppy K, good way to socialize.
