Walking Properly I have a 7 month old male purebreed Rotti pup, how can I tell if he walks normal, to me it looks like he is limping, but hard to tell as he has quite the swagger when he walks. He is an active pup runs like crazy in the back yard jumps up I assume all the normal functions a puppy does. He has never wimpered or whined, I can touch and feel all over his legs without him making any fuss or complaints. I hear so much about the hips, I have limited his exercise to only what I believe is the essential amount, I try to prevent him jumping as much as possible, always carried him up and down the stairs until he was to big to carry. He runs only in the back yard, we do go to good walks a day. What is the normal way a Rottie should walk? because if the swagger it appears to me like a limp, but as soon as he picks up the pace it appears to look normal again

Re: Walking Properly Is he tailless? Because most tailless rotties do have the "Rotti Butt Shake". Oscar's butt swags pretty good while he walks but within reason/normal. It's hard to know just how much your dog swaggers, you can always check with your vet to make sure you don't have a potential HD issue and that he's just giving you some shake w/ your fries! lol!

Re: Walking Properly To find out, maybe you should look at other moments..especially when he's getting up from lying down..look at the body gesture..did he mostly put his weight in the front (legs) ?did he put the pressure on the back legs also..... ? mine didnt and find out that he's got bad hips issue on his back (hips).. that's why he didnt use them much often .. ( I first thought that he's just being " lazy") and the muscle also looked slightly less developed compared to the front legs...

Re: Walking Properly Could also be a acl tear....just a thought maybe not a full tear but maybe an acl injury. Like i read on other posts it could also just be the rottie "butt wigglin walk"....or hips just keep a close eye on your pup and if it continues he may need to go in
