Re: Puppy's weight??

A 9 month old at 115 is large. I have seen Rotties as small as 80 lbs and as large as 150. My last Rottie was 143 full grown at 3 yrs. old. Be careful of knees, legs. The bigger they are seems to put added strain with heavy running or agility. My 9 month old Ruger is just 80 lbs. I adopted a smaller Rottie this time around.

Re: Puppy's weight??

You should have seen the look on my wife's face when the vet told us his weight He was the biggest of the litter, so with me driving a truck, I named him Diezel.
Does anyone know at what age they stop growing. At a gain rate of 12-13 lbs. a month, this guy is going to be huge. He isnt fat, just a big boy.
I had a 13-year old female that I had to put down this past March due to cancer, she was around 85 lbs.

Re: Puppy's weight??

Gypsy was 7.5 pounds at 7 weeks and 50-55 pounds at 6 months.

Also she is 20 inches which seems short for me at that age but Im unsure, what age do they usually sprout up??

Re: Puppy's weight??

TeddyBear my last Rottie grew thill he was 3 years old. He weighed about143 lbs the rest of his life. He was a big boy. The weight gains decrease each month as they get older. Ruger is on the short side for now at 10 months old but very stocky. They will sprout up slowly during the next 2 years.

Re: Puppy's weight??

It's all genetic driven outside of just stuffing them with food. My pups weigh in at around 12-15 pounds at 8 weeks of age with my bitch Cora, whom is a medium heigth but super thick 98# bitch. My Herbie v Gruntenblick pups whom are from my bitch Naja Earl Antonius just had weighed at the vets. Diego was 21.8 and Dallas was 19.3 at 9 weeks of age. Both parents are at the maximum in height and have very substantial builds, hence the heavier weights (Herbie is around 138 and Naja is 104#). They are freakishly large but, they are not in the least overweight. Personally, weight is not factor, overall balance is. I have seen phenominal 100# males and 80# females...so don't get hung up on weight, just make sure your young dogs are not overweight.

Normally, pups will get all their height and length the first year of their life. Thereafter, they will get their width and muscling, which can take up to an additional 2-4 years depending on the dog and sex.

Wow..I've seen Herbie at several national shows..(he won both)...but I would have never guessed him at that weight. My breeder's dog Iago was in the ring competing for National Sieger with Herbie, and they looked pretty close in weight. Iago is about 120 pounds.

Re: Puppy's weight??

He left NY at that weight thanks to Vinces super feed program and conditioning..68 cm dog looking lean is easily in those numbers.... check his ZtPR before his weight gain....it was 130 then. He has been heavier but the KS and the travel to Canada had dropped him from the 140 range if I recall my conversation with them correctly. Look at how much he had grown since the USRC Nats....he was 130ish there.

He's a truly great dog...I saw him at the Canadian Nationals recently...he actually looked a little leaner than when i saw him a few months before at the USRC Nationals. I really liked the way he stacked and held it real solid while most other dogs were constantly being moved to readjust.

Re: Puppy's weight??

I just tried to weigh my pup on the scale with me holding him and subtracting my weight, I know its not 100% accurate but he appears to weigh 35lbs and he is 12 weeks today, at 10 weeks he was 24lbs, this seems like a lot to me, he doesnt look big to me at all but when i lifted him to weigh him I was shocked by how heavy he felt, I feed him 1 cup 3 times a day of Innova, should I cut back to just 2 feedings?

Let him eat, he is a growing boy. If you can feel his ribs he is fine. You are lucky to have a good eater, mine is so picky.
