Puppy Weights

How big (heavy) should an 8-week old male puppy be. He is about 10 pounds, but has a ferocious appetite, almost like he has never been fed before. How much food should he get per day (cup-wise). The bag says 1 1/2 cups but that seems like too little.

Re: Puppy Weights

What kind of food are you feeding? The quantities vary from food to food. Slow growth is great to help prevent hip displaysia and other problems.

Here is a thread showing what others puppies weighed. http://www.rottweiler.net/forums/chi...ghlight=weight

Re: Puppy Weight

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

on average, rottie pups are in the 10 lbs a month range..
ex-3 mos-around 30 lbs.
but this is an average scale.
things like genetics(parents/grandparents),help decide on pups overall size as an adult.
some lines also develop slower.some grow faster.just like we have tall people, short people, heavy or lean.
the main thing is that she is healthy, has proper body condition, and at this age, eating 3 times a day.
enjoy her, and ignore the uneducated comments.

Have you talked with his breeder about this? What do they suggest?

Re: Puppy Weights

My Vegas was 17lbs, but he came with the "pudgy" belly, so the breeder was overfeeding him. My girl was only 11lbs at 8 weeks. She's weighed in at 27lbs at 13 weeks, and not pudgy at all.

Its odd, cuz she'll look bigger from one week to the next, but not gain a lb! And then she'll look a little chubby one week, and the next all super lanky. They get weird growth spurts. No 2 pups will grow the same.
