pup on meds ??

I know my puppy is growing fast and is going to have problems like going lose and throwing up. But why would my vet prescribe Metronidazole 250mg to my 27lb Rottweiler puppy ? Should I stop usage ?? Help ME. I read that that stuff isn't the best for any animal. I thought I saw blood in his stool but the vet said that there was none and still prescribed it because of " over growth of bacteria " or so they think. I really need help on this one. Thanks

Anthony

I suggest you follow the advice given to you by the vet.

I agree with Anne. Or if you are not happy with the vet get a second opinion.

That medication is excellent for the problems she is having. However, if you are uncomfortable with this vet, by all means, go to another one for a second opinion. Have them do a complete blood panel and check her for parasites if this has not already been done.

How old is she and how long has she had this problem? How did your vet come up with this diagnosis?

Well Oscar is a almost 4 month old male, and It started when I though I saw blood in his stool and it was really wet and not solid for almost three days. I we did a Parvo test just incase and a parsite test as well. He is up to date with all his shots and dewormers, so we know those should be fine. I think the vet just assumed that it was an overgrowth of bactiera in the puppy. He was going normal a day later after the meds. I do think that my neighbors didn't watch what he was eating and it made him sick. He is still taking it but his looks just fine now. I don't know If I should stop the Meds, I prob should finish it just as if I were perscribed the meds. I was just worried because I read that that med may have long term effects. I am new to the dog world and I don't want to make the wrong choices
