6 mos old Puppy Throws Down!!

I asked this Question tonight in Chat and got some good tips. But I promised I would post the question here so Others could learn. This is what this site is about!!

Anyway my buddy has a 6 mos old puppy ........a Golden Lab .... I know I know.. I laugh at him to!! LOL Just kidding . So he says the pup eats like crazy real fast he has been putting his kibble in a Kong to try to slow him down .
I was told to tell him to Elevate his food ..wich sounds like good advice .Any other Ideas to help him out would be great!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 6 mos old Puppy Throws Down!!

What I have done with speedy eater fosters in my home is to put a large Rock or a smaller upside down dog bowl in the dish so that the dog has to eat around the item and thus it slows down the eating...

Re: 6 mos old Puppy Throws Down!!

Feed his dinner during training. Excellent way of getting the pups attention, and knowing that food comes from you and establishing a strong leadership role. But it will also teach the pup to take the kibble gently, or you don't give it. Hold a handfull of kibble, practice sits, downs, stays, recalls whatever, and give him a few for every successfull response to a command. Gosh, this will get the pup super excited for training, cuz its means dinner time too! This will build a strong foundation that training is a VERY positive thing in the pups mind.
