puppy peed when I picked her up

Last week I had a relative stop by for a visit. When she came in the house my 12 wk. old rottie started barking as my relatives came into the livingroom. So I picked up my rottie to calm her down and let her meet the relatives while I was holding her. As I picked her up she started peeing. Is this normal? Was she just doing this because I scared her when I went to pick her up?.

Don't pick up your puppy with the intention to calm, soothe, or otherwise reassure her. Your puppy will think she's being rewarded for her behavior--and if she was nervous or unsure about the people being in your house, she'll think nervous/unsure behavior is what you want.

It would have been much better to give everyone a treat and have them bribe your puppy over to them, give her a treat, and make a fuss over her.

There could be several reasons as to why she peed.

i too have the same problem with Koda..when we want to pick him up or anything,he always leaves a lil puddle from where he stood.
