Thumbs down puppy is "play " chasing my 6 year old

He is playing but chasing my 6 year old every where. YES , The 6 year old started it as a game and I told him from the get go not to do this . He and his best buddy ( also 6 ) thought it was cute to let him chase them through the house while they were laughing at him . I told them that they were NEVER to do that because he will remember the game and even when he gets to be only 6-9 mo. old he will still think it is a game and possibly hurt them . he is only 11 weeks old right now. Well he (Cochise) has not hurt them in any way but he now wants to chase my son ( 6 year old ) all over the area we have given him so far and now has gotton to where he wants to jump at him and bite at his ears. my son now understands why I told him NOT to do this. can any one out there tell me the CORRECT way to stop this before it gets really bad. I have a pretty good pup but he is just that , a pup. he see's play in everything but the bad thing is so does my son. they do love on each other all the time but Cochise see's him and starts running toward him as if to say : come on lets play. I do not want this kind of play as the rotti will grow so fast and could hurt him and just think he was playing . I HAVE gotton on to my son and I told him that he was going to get a major spankin' if he did not stop this at once!! Now I have to let the pup know he also can NOT play this way.

Re: puppy is "play " chasing my 6 year old

not only do you have to train the pup, you must train your kids around the pup to. If the kids think it is fun, well put the puppy in the crate. OR leash the pup and keep the kids away.
It will not be fun to have a biting teen pup chasing and accidently hurting your child. I raised a perfectly great dog with my toddler. She gets wound up, dog gets sleep time. When she calms down and realizes puppy away, he is let out, and she pets him. NEVER have I EVER let him chase her. Prey drive kicks in... Dangerous. Please raise your child to respect the dog

Re: puppy is "play " chasing my 6 year old

yes that is what I am trying to do . A.j. ( six year old ) nows but he still has the play in him also ( all boy) BUT I do not want this kind of play and thought I has it licked but yestrday I saw differant. I just want this to stop . I know if I raise Cochise around A.j. they will be best friends when Cochise gets older. But for now I think I will take your advice and when he is getting out of hand to put him in his crate and also put A.j. in HIS room for a time out also until they both can nice. Any other suggestions? Thanks rotti lover and I am sorry about your car Wasn't that you ?

yup that was me. Just consistency. Patience. And the tim out for the child works well too. No kids likes to be seperated from their dog. Have treats in your pocket at all times, try teaching the come command, everytime he listens to you, and comes, have that treat ready.
