fish oils

I was advised to use fish oil along with his daily serving of food. I've started him on atlantic herring, is that really any good for him at just over 9 weeks of age?

Re: fish oils

Ofcourse it is! For whatever reasons you'd want to supplement an older dog, is game for a young pup.

Whatever oils you use, just make sure its got a decent EPA and DHA content, and whatever brand you buy, verify that they purify toxins out of the oils. If it does not state so on the box/bottle, then call the manufacturer up and ask for "proof".

I haven't noticed many brands who state purification processes.

Re: fish oils

Well compare brands, how many capsules per container vs cost. It doesn't HAVE to be a certain mg per capsule, if you get 2x as many capsules with half the content of the leading brand.

For example, the kind I have has a combined EPA / DHA content of about 300 mg per capsule. You can get more or less EPA/DHA content, and price usually affects that. I wouldn't buy anything that doesn't state the EPA/DHA content.

P.S. I don't know if there is any benefit or drawback to omega 3 from herring. I've always taken and seen omgega supplements from wild salmon.
