Certifications

I have a question about certifications. Thyroid, eye, cardiac, hips, elbows. Do you wait until you get your championship to get certified or just if you want to breed.
I want to get a CGC,CD on my pup eventually and would like to show conformation. I do have a male and would like to leave him intact, not intending on breeding though.
I just posted a picture of him. Look under Smoke. It looks as though I have a death grip on him. I thought he was going to leap off the table after his treats!

Re: Certifications

I firmly believe that every rottweiler should have OFA hips and elbows done. This is so that the breeder has an idea of what their producing. It gives you an idea of what your dog's littermates/close family ratings are incase you want to breed. It gives you piece of mind or what to do to keep your dog's joints healthy when doing performance events.
I try to get my dog's first CERF test at about 18 months and then yearly after that. I want to get OFA heart done by a cardio specialist sometime after 18 months of age. OFA hips and elbows at 24-25 months. IF there is any question on the x-ray, then get it redone 6-12 months later.
OFA Thyroid at about 2 years of age too. I get my dog's thyroid checked every couple of years as that is something that can change over time. I get the full panel done, but not sent to OFA. It will be for my own records.
Health certs should not be predicated on earning a championship or vice a versa.

Re: Certifications

Thanks......

Does anyone get parvo titers done or reccommend having them done to see if the pup has built antibodies at around 6 months of age? Just wondering.
