help! worms in puppy poop I know I'm supposed to search first, but I really need to know this ASAP because I'm worried about my rotty. We just got our puppy of 7 weeks de-wormed today at the vets at around 11:30 am. About 30 mins. ago, we fed him and soon after, he decided to take a poop. We found 2 worms in his poop! Is this normal? Is it supposed to happen? I never had a puppy before, and I'm really worried.

Re: help! Once a puppy gets dewormed the dead worms in his intestinal tract will come out in his/her fecal matter; hence the whole 'deworming' part. Correction- Dead worms (i.e. hookworms, roundworms, etc) and other various intestinal parasites will come out in their fecal matter.

Re: help! This is normal. Lots of young puppies have worms. I would call your vet and describe the worms to them. Because worms were seen they may want to change your worming schedule.

Re: help! I'm going to take his stool and one of the worms to the vet tomorrow. I have a question. If he's around other dogs, are they safe? Because, he might still have worms?

Re: help! Are other dogs safe around my puppy? Can they catch worms from being around? Or, only from messing around with his poop?

Re: help! worms in puppy poop You don't have to take a stool sample to the vet, he has just been dewormed, the dewormer is an INTESTINAL PARASITE KILLER, and the parasites are coming out of his intestinal tract,Because they have been killed, and now need to be EXPELLED from his body, this is what normally happens when dogs are dewormed.........the worms are dead........because of the dewormer..........The ONLY time you will have a problem is if they are MOVING. They should be completely out of his stool in a couple of days, a couple of bowel movements even. IF THEY WERE NOT MOVING You don't have to change his worming schedule, nor does he need to go back to the vet.....watch him/her defecate, the look at the poop for a minute and notice whether or not they are moving. If your other dogs are on heartworm preventative(heartguard Plus) there should be no problem, they also need flea preventative because dogs get intestinal parasites from eating fleas also.
