Re: aggression in 8wk old pup?

I want to make it clear for everyone to understand that what Karen is experiencing and what Dimitri are experiencing are two different "animals".

The OP's pup was displaying fearful behavior, and Karen's pup is displaying 'normal' puppy behavior. One would not use the techniques described to Karen for a pup who is displaying the behavior that Dimitri's pup was.

Sorry, this thread kind of wandered to where it is, perhaps the moderator will split it to alleviate any confusion for people.

Wildfire, there is a 'new thread' button on the screen.

What does the breeder say? Why is your pup on the floor with a 'baby' ?

Please, either return the pup, or seek the help of an instructor in which you AND the pup can be evaluated immediately.

I dare say, that if a 12 week old puppy scares you, it's best for all involved to return the pup to the breeder and think about a different type of pet. You are doing this puppy (and yourself) a disservice if you are incapable of handling it properly.

Re: aggression in 8wk old pup?

If you do not take it back to the breeder as I do agree with Pooh bear, You are going to HAVE to take charge of this animal .You can not let her dominate you or your family . I know sometimes people say no , i'm not taking her back ! She 's mine . Well you have to just be tough and take charge. If she continues TAKE HER BACK!! There are plenty of other rotties out there . They are not supposed to have a temperment . They are not pits ! I had both and I love the pit , do not get me wrong and some are quite wonderful , but I have to tell you I will always choose a rott. over a pit any day!! In the case of your sister, I also agree with Pooh Bear, Why were they in the same area? You need a baby gate to close off your pup any way for potty purposes. Also I read a wonderful post done by Pooh Bear, She is right on the collar and grab her by her mouth thing , my pup was wanting to bite down everytime I pet him., I did what she said and I have only had to correct him a couple of times after that. It really works . Some things you may be seeing a bad may be just puppy play , she is teething right now. My little man also like s to play chase and bite ankles andbehinds ( not hard) but to him it was a game that I had to teach him was not allowed . I would take him for a run out side on his leash and when he started it I would stop right then and there and call him down , then praise for stopping and then cont. again until he got the message . he does better now. Good luck

Look Pits (APBT, AST) are not supposed to be HUMAN aggressive. Not one little bit.

And most Rott pups have an attitude as pups (and as adults too if not trained)

Re: aggression in 8wk old pup?

I agree . I did not say they either one did not or do have agression. I said thet the rott.(if trained right ) should not!!!! I think that pits tend to have a temperment cause of the blood lines in SOME because they are fought in those pits and made to have temperments . I have had both as I said in my post. I loved the 2 pits I had , and they WERE raised well !You could always see they were just not as trust worthy as the Rotts I had . Do not get offended . I was not being ugly . Just stating my opinon as from the ones I had . Thats ALL!

Re: aggression in 8wk old pup?

actually now i'm starting to see where i might have gone wrong to start with my Bobo. as i've started to work this the behaviourlist and to properly train my pooch. now i have to admit that my puppy is hand shy and is somewhat aloof towards people. I try to coax him into going to say hello to new people, but always tell the people who are approaching him that he is hand shy and to go slowly. last night at the clinic, he was starting to get nervous and backup up into the end of the examination table. at this time, i asked the vet to back off a bit to give him room. once we both backed up, bobo came to the middle of the table. I guess all in all seeing that i'm still a newbie at owning dogs, i have a lot to learn, but the first and most important thing is to see his body language and look at what his actions are. I do believe that giving him room and showing him lots of TLC, compassion, and slow graceful movements that i'm able to help this dog succeed. sadly i'll probulary have to deal with his fear temperament for the rest of his life, but now with some great tools, education, and support. I do have the means to provide this dog with a wonderful life. i was kindof hoping that i could get him into agile competitions and training, but I don't see that happening just anytime soon :(

ps. thanks poohbear and others for helping sort somethings out with my bobo
