Re: First Session Puppy Class with PetsMart

You have to watch them. I think I put them in for 3 minutes and just watch if they start to burn to stop it.

Cooking them too long. Go for one minute at a time, when they start to turn rubbery, that's enough. Take them, out, dab the moistness off of them and let them set. They will turn a bit tougher as they cool.

The method I use is a little bit more time consuming, but they come out just right.

Slice the hot dogs into thin slices, place on a plate with paper towels under and over the hot dogs. Nuke at 15 second intervals, and turn them over each time. Stop nuking when they are brown and crispy.

Yes, I also use the paper plate/towel method. Sorry forgot to add that. It's been a while since I made them!

Re: First Session Puppy Class with PetsMart

Doesn't anybody boil hotdogs anymore?

Ok, I just made a pan of the tuna flat-cake stuff. Thanks for the recipe. It's a great consistency, cuts easily into tiny pieces, but you can squeeze a couple pieces together if you need a bigger treat. Very cheap and easy to make. And the best part, Jayda loves them!!!

Re: First Session Puppy Class with PetsMart

I thought hot dogs were already cooked.

I am using clicker training with great success, I would think about maybe incorperating both methods. A clicker is a signal to the dog that they do not have a problem hearing.

Re: First Session Puppy Class with PetsMart

we just put the hot dogs in a bowl with a little water, and cook for about two minutes. they come out perfect, then we let them cool off and cut up into small pieces.

we also thought about enrolling sampson into puppy classes. we have been looking for good classes. is petsmart good on puppy training?

and what's the difference in petsmart vs petco?

any input would be appreicated.

Re: First Session Puppy Class with PetsMart

Hi Norma, we are happy thus far with the training PetsMart is offering, it's only the first week and he's learning plenty, plus the great socialization with the other pups in our training class. I think it's really going to depend on the instructor, ours has years of experience. You can just walk in and talk to the trainer. I'm not sure if Petco offers training, at least ours doesn't.
