| Overbite in pup My new pup has an overbite...not huge but it is noticeable. The breeder told me this before delivery of pup and I chose this pup regardless as I will not be showing him but will train him as a Therapy Dog. I was wondering if anyone here has experience w/overbites and if there could be potential problems associated with it. Just curious. I posted some pix as well. El |

| Re: Overbite in pup Quote:
Our girl Sasha who just passed at 8 years old from Pancreatitis, had a slight overbite. It didnt slow her down at all. The only thing it effected was we could only get limited AKC registration for her, basically, it verified her pedigree, but denied her any right to be showed. We were also required by the breeder to have her neutered after her first heat cycle. Which we did. She was the best dog I have ever owned. There can be some difficulties if it is severe, but if it is minor, it shouldnt be an issue. |

| Re: Overbite in pup Slight overbites have a good chance of correcting themselves. Underbites, IME do not. Bree had a slight overbite as a pup and beautiful scissors by the time she was 9 months old.

| Re: Overbite in pup Thanks Alex and Big. I did some searching here in archives and also went to see the breeder today,(unrelated to Satch's bite) and y'all are right, it may self correct. Sorry about your loss Big. I had to put my boy Sammy down in Dec due to Pancreatitis exacerbated by diabetes. He was only 6... Thanks again, El |

| Re: Overbite in pup i have seen at least 2 rotts overbites correct by 9 months of age.one was almost 3/4 of an inch and we thought it wouldn't, but it did by 9 months. some don't, but mostly manage well.just gotta check canines are not cutting into the top of the roof of the mouth/lip.in some cases, canines can be filed down if this is a problem at an older age.

| Re: Overbite in pup If the baby canines are hitting the roof of the mouth, a crown amputation can be done on the baby teeth to prevent it. The baby tooth is cut at the gum. Chili needed this done for one of her lower canines and her bite is looking good so far. |
