Re: my rotty stopped growing height wise!!!

Your dog will grow to his genetic height and there is no supplement that will make him taller.

MANY many males grow in height (though very slowly after 10 months old) until 2 or even 3 years old!

THEN heads and bodies fill out until 4 or 5 years

Be patient and don't expect a 13 year old teenager to look like a 30 year old man

Re: my rotty stopped growing height wise!!!

NOT a Rottweiler. Even the girls grow up (albeit slowly) until 18 months or so

Hi frontierrots! I visited your website… impressive… you seem to be a professional person once it comes to rottwelers.
Just want to know if it is NORMAL FOR A ROTTY TO STOP GROWING IN HEIGHT FOR ALMOST 4 MONTHS AND THEN PICK UP AGAIN AFTER HE IS ALREADY 11 MONTHS???
Thanking you in advance and wishing you well.

Re: my rotty stopped growing height wise!!!

Thanks

Every bloodline and every individual is different but normally at least the males grow at least some more until 2 years old, just very very slowly. My guess for your boy is that he will finish up somwhere between 24 1/2 and 25" by 2. But he may be different and may have stopped but that would not be average.

In my 20 year experience in the breed with exposure to many bloodlines, rescue dogs etc MOST females grow til 12-18 months (and some until 2) and most males growm til 18-24 months (and some until 3). But there are exceptions to every "usually"

Re: my rotty stopped growing height wise!!!

Thanks again frontierrots! I appreciate your promptness which indicates the efficiency you operate at,,,, would like to benefit more from your experience in a guesstimate of Kaiser's final weight I know it depends on the genes but all I need is an educated guess!! There goes his measurements:-

Three months 36 lb
Four months 46 lb
Five months 57 lb
Six months 64 lbs
Seven months 75 lb
Eight months 80 lb
Nine months 84 lb
Ten months 90.5 lb
Eleven months 92 lb

Re: my rotty stopped growing height wise!!!

Final adult body weight (at 3-4 years old) has so many variables that only a broad guesstimate can be given
The variables are
how fat you keep your dog
how much muscle he is carrying (muscle weighs more than fat)
how large/dense his bones are (Rotts can vary from fine to very heavy boned)

The average 24-25" male Rottweiler in good weight and decent muscle will average 90-118 lbs based on the above variables (except for the first one, anyone can feed any Rott into immense blimphood)

Re: my rotty stopped growing height wise!!!

Thanks for this post hatemzalloum!. I had the exact same question. My rottie just turned 11 months last week and it looks like he's stuck between 24 and 25". You can see him in the photo gallery. He's got some huge paws so it's kind of weird seeing a short dog w/ big paws. Hopefully he'll keep getting taller. I saw a couple 9-12 month old rotti's at a dog show a couple weeks ago and they made mine look like a new born. Those show dogs are huge.

Thanks a lot frontierrots! Appreciate your valuable input………
Ollieboy, how much does your boy weigh? Do you have an age/weight record for him…it would be nice to compare data.

Re: my rotty stopped growing height wise!!!

Hi Everyone,
I have almost the same problem, but my rott grew very slow this last 3 months. I have a 11 months old male rott. He just turned 11 months today. He's only weight 82 lbs. He weight 69 lbs when he was 8 monthes old and grow very slow since then. Do you all think my rott is a little small. He has a big head. When i touch him, i can feel mostly his bones. He is not underweight. I just want to know if he is growing slowly or he just little. His mom is 90 and his dad is 150.

SORRY if i made any grammar mistake.

Hard to tell, he might start to grown again after 12 months and building muscle and mass. But I wouldn't expect him to be 150 lbs full grown. Our pups father is 147 lbs and our pup is 92 lbs now at 7 1/2 months. It seems like he is starting to grow alot slower now after 7 months.

Re: my rotty stopped growing height wise!!!

I throw my 2 cents in here. Raelin grew like a weed untill she was 8 months old, gaining about 2# a week steadily, and then just came to a halt. At 8 m/o, she was about 25" tall and about 75#. She is now 2 y/o and a about the same height, and just under 80#.
I have noticed though that her skin is getting a little looser around her neck, and her head is filling in a little bit more as well.
