Re: too young puppy

If I were you I would start alot of reading and listen to those who have experiance with this. He is a good 3 weeks too young for sure. All I know is i've been told it's a ton of work and takes dedication. But I will leave the input for those who are more experianced than I!

Try a search you might be suprised!

Re: too young puppy

Why can't you return him to the breeder? They should be willing to take him back and return your monry unless they are just unethical back yard breeders. If that is the case, do a search on the forums here for 5 - 6 week puppies and do lots of reading. You have a lot of work ahead of you in order to socialize and bring this puppy up correctly.

Here are a couple of threads for you to get started on....

Heck even then you should at least be able to bring the puppy back to the mom for the next 3 weeks I would assume. Or even just give it back!

Re: too young puppy

Yes, I understand what everyone is saying I want to return the puppy. I don't trust the breeder now. He does not have a phone I have to contact him by email and a friend of mine told me he does not want the puppy back. She told me he does not care for the den and he goes out a lot and he just thinks that us girls don't know what we are talking about. He said he is sick of taking care of the puppies and wants them gone! What am I to do. My friend who is his friend said he is over taking care of them the puppy thing is old news. My husband and I are trying our very best to find information. What do think I should do now?

If you bought him on any type of contract, you might have some legal recourse to returning him. Did you buy him on a contract?

Otherwise, some cities have laws saying that puppies cannot be sold before they are 7-8 weeks of age. Does that apply where you live? Maybe another list member in the same city will respond back with that information.

Sounds as if you have a very young puppy on your hands that you will now have to work through the problems that come with them. It can be done, stay on this list, ask lots of questions and don't give up. Have lots of patience, lots of treats and don't expect too much of the youngster, it will take him a bit longer to respond and learn.

And if you don't already have one, buy a crate and start his crate training immediately. Do a search on the forums for crate training and read and learn from all of them. It will be a safe haven for him and give you undisturbed rest time when you need it from his training.

Here is my post from the other place you had put your question:

This was before I got on the forum and got all of the great info about how important it is for puppies to stay with their littermates for at least 8 weeks. I wish I had known this before I decided to get Max. He has turned out great though. He is 14 months old now and the best dog ever! He has gotten plenty of socialization and constant training and it shows in his behavior and temperament. There were some things that staying with the litter would definitlely have helped when he was younger, though. Bite inhibition is one of them! We had a very hard time teaching bite inhibition. He would have learned it a lot better from his littermates I'm sure.

But, you have your puppy now. The best thing you can do for him is make sure he gets plenty of socialization because he is missing out on that from the litter. I know you have to be wary of diseases, but you can still take him lots of places and let him see different kinds of things. Trust me, all is not lost. You just have to make sure he gets what he needs in the way of training and socialization.

Re: too young puppy

Hi Sharon and everyone: No contract. I am sorry to everyone I know that I should have done more research before rather than now. My husband and I spend lots of time with him. We have been reading and training him to come which I must say what a good boy. He is beinging to understand and everytime he bite my hands I put a toy in his mouth. We have two cats who tolertate him but don't play and the little guy knows not to rush them he is very good at not going over broad. He knows how to play the yoyo game. I call him give him a treat and then Chris calls him and he gives him a treat. I do the roll over game and putting my hand on his chest for 10-20 seconds and he lays here like a good boy until I let go he likes to play patty cakes with his paws. 4-6 time a day I look in his ears, paws, mouth, butt anything to show that he will always be touched. Brush him and when he sleeps I put my jaw over his head to show that I am the alpha. I do baby him rock him in my arms and he falls asleep and socialize him like crazy. He has a den the kitchen and other part of the house he must br supervised. I put my fingers in his dish to show that it's not a big deal not the whole time just for 2-3 seconds. When he comes to the end I put a few more in this dish while his head is down. I show him new things and sounds all the time. I prasie him for everything good and understand that he just baby that needs to be trained not disciplined for being a baby.

Many people make mistakes - the best thing is you are willing to do what it takes to fix it. Bless you. Read - Read - Read till the words are blurred then do - do - do. - and give pictures and updates. Congratulations on your new puppy.

You being here and showing an interest in doing the right thing is wonderful.

I'm just not sure where you got the idea that sticking a dogs head in your mouth is a positive beneficial thing.

Continue playing games with your puppy, handling your puppy and socializing him. In a few short months sign up for puppy kindergarten, and then obedience training.

You have to earn being the leader of you puppy. Training will help in that.

Please hang around here and read, and ask questions. We all try to help each other here.

Re: too young puppy

I don't put his head in my mouth I rest my chin on his neck in the most loving way. That was funny I would never do that. That put a smile on my face. Yup, my little Klausey will be going to school. We love him and we want everyone else to, so he is going to be trained and he is going to enjoy it so I hear we want the best life for him and anyone that comes in contact with him.

Re: too young puppy

Okay good. That is a relief. When you wrote "put my jaw over his head” I envisioned you sticking his head in your mouth.

Your guy didn't have the easiest start in life, but it can work out.

I hope you'll stick around here, and I'm glad I made you smile instead of offending you.

Re: too young puppy

You are definitely on the right road with him and with lots of work, patience and perserverance, he will turn out to be a wonderful dog.

Good luck and keep asking those questions and keep reading and searching the archives!
