Recommended Time Between Feedings?

Hello all, I have a question about my 11 week old female 17.5lbs. I recently weined her on to Wellness, off of Authority. I was wondering what the time should be between feedings. I was feeding her at 10am, 2pm & 6pm but I think that is to long for her to wait between last feeding & the morning. So today I had my wife feed her at 7am & I am going to feed her at 1pm & 6pm 3/4 cup each time is that ok? Thank you for your time.

Chris

Re: Recommended Time Between Feedings?

I have never fed a dog on anything approaching this kind of schedule. When feeding three meals a day, I feed one in the morning, one in the early afternoon and one in the evening. With a dog on two meals a day, I feed one meal in the morning, and one in the evening. No more accurate than that. It is not critical that there be some number of hours between feedings, by the time they're old enough to go to their new homes, puppies are not like human babies which need feeding every couple of hours, just feeding three meals which are roughly evenly spaced is just fine (my current dog never wanted three meals a day and I stopped trying after a couple of weeks and just went to twice a day). I do not think it benefits the dog to feed it on a strict schedule. I am flexible and I expect my dogs to be flexible as well. Some days my dog gets dinner at 6pm, other days I delay feeding until we get home from agility class, which can be as late as 9:30pm. I think you might be over-thinking this . Feed three meals a day at times which suit you, no need to be exact about it, just feed them roughly when you'd be eating your own meals. Dogs can go for a day or more between meals, so it's certainly no big deal to go for a few hours. Just make sure you're splitting the day's ration into the meals, some people get confused and feed the whole day's ration at each meal.

13 week old pup here. Generally, he is eating around 6 am, 1 pm, & 6:30 pm, but that schedule is flexible depending on what we are doing that day.

Re: Recommended Time Between Feedings?

My 20 week old pup has had the same feeding schedule since we got her. 6:30am, 12:30pm, 6:30pm. Of course we stray a bit, but it's still rather consistent.

Re: Recommended Time Between Feedings?

Mine was and still is fed three times a day...7:30 a.m.; 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Especially with young puppies....it's important that they are fed throughout the day so their blood suagr levels don't get too low.

My information (holistic vet) tells me that more frequent , smaller feedings are also beneficial to adult dogs..easier on digestion. I have been feeding three times a day for over 15 years.

I also feed three times a day. I know the only time I eat dinner and nothing afterwards before bed is when I am on a diet.

No strict schedule but usually 6am, 4pm, & 9pm.

Re: Recommended Time Between Feedings?

Thanks for the reply's, I guess i was over thinking it. I'll stick with 7am, 1pm 6:30 and it will vary on the weekends when we sleep late. I just wanted to make sure I was not letting her go to long without food & that I was not feeding her to close together. Thanks for the help..
