Thumbs up Red Eyes

Hello everyone I have a quick question, I took my tank to the vet yesterday to investigate his hips, and do X rays, and he was fine, but this moring when I woke up, he's eyes were red, and some whitish greenish mucous was in them, i'm wondering is that normal sometimes, and after lasting for how long should I be worried? also what can I do to hlep it if possible? oh yeah he's seven and half months I don't know if that helps.

Re: Red Eyes

If he were a human I'd say he had some sort of eye infection or allergies...sounds like you need another trip to the vet!

Re: Red Eyes

You are in my neck of California. We are in the midst of fall allergy season. In my house (dogs and humans) we're all having itching, watery eyes. That said...if the GREEN goobers persist I'd go back to the vet for a check for possible infection.

Re: Red Eyes

The red eyes indicate an irritant of some sort. Allergies? Carpet powders? Dust in the air? White mucous would be annoying (as in allergy or temporary irritant) but once it attains color (green) then you have infection.

Re: Red Eyes

what kind of gets is that I did some research, and found out that eye infections don't develope overnight, so he was there last night went through a check up, and the vet said he looked health, and in great condition. So I sure am going back to that vet tomorrow. Does anyone think that warm water compresses might help, until I take him?

Re: Red Eyes

He should find warm wet compresses soothing, if he lets you do it. Probably start by just gently wiping over the eye from the inside corner to the outer a few times, then see if you can hold it there momentarily. Well, you know your dog better. Do what you think will work.

Post Re: Red Eyes

Did they have to sedate him to do the x-rays?
If so...this is why his eyes are red...from the sedation.

I suggest you give him 24-48 hours to get better, if he is not better take him into the vets.

Gina

Re: Red Eyes

well when I went to the vet he did the physical hip exam, and he said so far everything feel normal, but no x rays yet, that's on tuesday, and yes they will sedate him, they couldn't do it the other day, for sedation he needs to be on a no food diet from the night before. When I take him in, if his eyes are not better, I'll definetly get it checked out, I think with the hot compress that I've been doing, his eyes look a little better.

Re: Red Eyes

off topic but a dog does not need to be on no food for SEDATION....only for anesthesia.

My dogs have been sedated and did not need to be on no food.

is the redness and gunk in BOTH eyes or just one?

Re: Red Eyes

Ok, I went to the vet and he said that the problem with his eyes are not an infection, but his eye lids roll in, and not out, and that's what's causing the irritations, he priscribed him some medications, and said that it's a very mild case so far. Anybody with similar experiences? and what do you guys think could happen could it get better by age, and he could grow out of it, or is it gonna get worset.
