| Teething? At what approximate age can we expect the teething to start. Are there any other signs to look for beyond finding teeth on the floor? Our male puppy (18wks old) has been increasingly 'chewy' last couple of days. We have made very good progress on this 'issue' since we have him and most of the time he is now focusing only on his toys. Since yesterday, he is totally up for chewing anything hard..such as wooden steps. Can it be due to teething or is it plain naughty? thanks Renata |

| If he has access to things that he shouldn't be chewing and he chews them then yes you are being naughty for not supervising him! Teething does bring on more chewing......freeze a stuffed kong or give a frozen raw bone and that should help relieve his discomfort a bit.

| 18 weeks is about spot on for teething time. Keep a hawks eye on your pup, and give him appropriate outlets for his teething. "Chilly Bone" makes a line of refreeze-able canvas teething toys. But, I took a washcloth, dampened it and then froze it, essentially the same idea. That was a big hit with Cash when he was teething. You can also freeze pieces of carrots or banana.

| And be prepared for the teething to last until he is at least 6 months old. All the frozen ideas really do work for them!

| I am supervising him (have to admit that the way you put it made me laugh, bless), that is why I noticed the accessive chewing that suddenly returned three days ago. He only tries to chew on the wooden step which is one of the reasons I thought that it may be teething rather than pure naughtiness(sp?) - even though it still has element of it as he has already learned that he is not allowed to chew on it. I have been implementing carrots, frozen raw bones, even banana. He loves it of course. Only was concerned as his stool is not the form it should be either so will stick to frozen 'toys' and bones only. Otherwise he is as active as ever. Thanks for all advise as always! |

Check his mouth often right now, in case a baby tooth doesn't come out, and to ensure that his adult teeth are coming in correctly. If a baby tooth is retained, see your vet, and they can help you.
