Well if her AKC papers are accurate (I'll assume they are) it says that she was born July 14th which made her 7 wks old this past thursday. She is now about 7 lbs (she's gained 2 lbs since joining us). She is doing very well so far. We have been using her toys to redirect her and it works for the most part. When it doesn't, we just take our attention away from her and she normally calms down.

She has been doing well exploring our home and yard. She is doing fairly well when we call her (we get down and clap our hand saying her name in a happy tone). So far we are very pleased with her.

Planning on getting some of the books mentioned. Gave dog trainer I know a call and she is going to come out this week to meet her. We'll start with private lessons until she finishes her round of shots then we'll enter her in some group puppy classes for more socialization. She has met all of the human neighbors, been for a few car rides and riden in the shopping cart at home depot (she was a smash hit) so we are taking socialization and exposure to everything very seriously. We want her to be a very confident, well adjusted dog.

For anyone interested, there are a few pictures of her in the gallery.. her name is Nala

Hi, I've just joined the site, so not sure if I'm in the right place, but I have a Rotty cross Ridge back, six weeks old (got her at 5 and a half) She was a freebe, as the owner of the Ridgeback did not intend to breed. Dad is a Rotty, but the Ridgeback owner doesn't know the history. I took her for her shots, and the vet said he sees no Ridgeback, but it may show up later, she weighs 2.8 Kgs, and I don't really care that she is not a pedigree, but will treat her as a Rotty. We love her! I did not realise she was too young to leave mom, and did not realise she was so young, either, till the person I got her from told me afterwards! I am having a trainer in on Saturday, who will advise on the home front, then there is a group on Sunday who do puppy socialising first then older dog afterwards in our local park, so I will take her there as well, to get as much info as I can. I also own four cats (actually they own me) who are not too impressed, but the puppy has decided to terrorize only one of them, and it's a bit of a problem, any suggestions? She also bites and chews, but I have read the advice, and will follow it. Please explain Crate training. My vet says we don't practice it in South Africa becauser because its cruel???
