Seriously though, my dog does not have gas. But I have had dogs who have. And nothing ever emitted smelled good....LOL!

But point taken about the food.
Roses!!!! Smells like roses!!!

I just meant that his butt is not so stinky. Plus his gas is a lot less often than it was on the lesser quality foods.

Beth,

Excellent site you posted!!! I use to feed Iams Large breed puppy food and Moka was constantly sick. Went to the vet who prescibed me Science Diet. Had Moka on that for 2weeks and still was sick. She was so sick that I had to rush her to the emergency room because she was dehydrated. The food did not sit well at all. So I decided to get a 2nd opinion with a Holistic Vet who educated me on crap foods. I did research and decided to try Flint River Ranch. She did great on it. No more sickness but had a ton of gas. So again I switched and now she is on Raw and has been ever since. I would suggest everyone who feeds there dogs a less expensive dog food to read the article that beth posted so you can get a better understanding.

My question for people who do feed there dog crap food is would you eat chicken feathers, intestines, and ligaments? If the answer is NO then why would you want to feed you dog that?????

EXACTLY!!!!! There is all kinds of crap in the "meat meal" or "chicken By-Products meal" that is not even worth feeding, plus Whole Ground Corn meal has little to NO nutrional value...so WHY feed it?

Someone very WISE pointed me in the direction of that article!

I have checked around here fot some of the foods you guys have talked about and can't find them anywhere. I couldn't stand to see my dog being sick for three weeks so no I didn't wait any longer to put her back on pedigree. She was absolutely fine after that and has been ever since. I also made sure that when I was switching her over that I followed the guidelines for switching foods. As far as would I eat feathers etc. no But would you eat grass and your own poop. I wouldn't but dogs do.

Did you go to the websites are do a product search? That's how I found which foods were and were not carried in my neck of the woods.

Slightly off subject, but I was able to teach a friend about better quality foods for her cats today. Baby steps, but she went from some food where corn was the first ingredient, to one with chicken by-product meal.
She was taken aback when I spent $40 on a bag of Evo, but turned around and paid $25 for Iams...

You live in a big city...there should be many places that sell super premium foods. They are usually not sold in big box pet stores...but in smaller, private pet boutique or animal feed stores.
Go to www.canidae.com and click on the store locator. Put in your area code or zip code. Most stores that sell Canidae, will also sell Innova and Wellness and Solid Gold, Natual Balance, etc.

I live in a rural area and our closest town is only 15,000 people and I am able to buy all of the good food.

The problem with feeding crappy food..is often it takes awhile for the damage from poor nutrition to show up. If your dog has ever itched, scratched , had ear infections, had heavy shedding constantly, dirty eyes in the morning,etc...this is often caused by poor quality foods.

So feed them grass and their own poop then. That would be better than the Pedigree.

You made me laugh....
But in all honestly...you are not far from the truth...add a little meat meal, and corn....and it would be another poor quality food.

I think people that feed O'l Roy or Pedigree would be better off feeding their dogs stale bread, meat scraps and some fruits and veggies...much healthier and cheaper too.

What did you feed? Maybe you just needed to try a different type of food and describe "sick"...what was she doing?

I feed a probiotic along with my food which aids in the digestion during switches, you can always just feed a yogurt. If you had an upset belly in your girl, then you should have gone to a bland diet (beef and rice) for a few days, then gone back on the food you were trying to see if it was the food that was upsetting her belly or maybe the mixture of the two foods.

I tried the natures choice was one of them and by being sick I mean throwing up and very loose stools. She was lathargic and didn't want to play. She was total oppisite from her normal self.

I've never heard of Natures Choice. Do you know what company makes it?

Give Innova or Canidae a try. Just remember to feed ALOT less food and to feed twice per day. The average size Rottweiler would only need 2 cups or 3 cups of food per day. I switched over almost 35 foster dogs onto Canidae....and not one of them ever had a problem after the first day or so. Most of them were in poor shape and came out of shelters. The improvement was unbelievable.
