Talking Crating for discipline

I have a 7 week old his name is Diesel. This is not my first rottie, our baby Cyrus had to be put to sleep due to kidney failure, he was almost 7 years old. He was a very well behaved dog and I remember getting on this forum when he was a little pup for advice also. Well my "angel" Diesel is just full of him puppy self. He has been doing pretty good with the "NO" biting of ankles, but sometimes he just has so much energy and you can't do anything with him. I was under the impression not to use the crate as a scolding measure or is it alright to put him in there when he is out of control? Sometimes the firm No has no affect on him, but he doesn't like to be alone in his crate. Though at night now he sleeps in there without crying at all. Yesterday I had to move him from the floor while he was sleeping. When I picked him up he growled at me, should he have aggression at this age, or what was it?

Putting a puppy in the crate protects it from an emotional out-of-control owner. Other than that, it does not teach them anything. Not like they are going to be in there reading books on human behavior.

All I can say is, well, he's a PUPPY! 7 weeks is not 7 years, that's for sure. Take your time with him, be firm but fair. Sounds like it may have been awhile since you had a little one, they ARE full of spirit! But you do have to keep in mind he's just a baby who must look to you for guidance and direction. You can't expect him to respond instantly to commands at this age, and I know you know that. Let him burn up some energy in the yard and keep at it! Pictures, please???
