| Bringing new puppy home on weekend Hi everybody, I'm a new member and I'm picking up my new rott pup this weekend, and I just wanted to introduce myself to everybody on this forum, as I'm sure to be turning to it quite a lot! Now I know the questions you are all going to ask because I have spent the last week scouring this forum, so I will answer them before you ask. I have wanted a rottweiler for many years and so have been researching them consistantly for a long time, especially over the last 6 weeks since our pup was born, and feel I know enough about the breed to raise one, however there is still a lot more to learn. (7 by the time I pick him up, don't panic ) I am an experienced pet owner, having owned a rotty cross boxer (now that is an intersting combo, let me tell you!)I also own a horse and a cat, and my father in law and sister in law both own purebred rotts. I do work full time as does my partner, however the pup won't be home alone any longer than 3 hours at a time without one of us being home, as I will be home during my lunch hour. I am also taking him to both puppy preschool and obedience training. Phew, now I know this is a very long winded post, but I'm nearly done! I just wanted to say that I think this is a GREAT forum, and the members offer some great advice. However, and PLEASE don't take this the wrong way, I do feel a bit scared to ask for advice because the more experienced members seem to have a tendency to "belittle" (for want of a better word) the newer members. Now I do understand your reasoning, as I too have sat shaking my head in wonder at some of the posts on here as to how some people think when they bring a baby into their homes without the first clue about how to raise it, and I can imagine how this can be frustrating to all of you who have worked long and hard to ensure you have the skills necessary to raise a healthy, happy and well trained animal. SO, although I am new at this and a little intimidated by all the knowledgeable people on this site, I look forward to discussing my puppy's progress with you all and getting some great advice! And I must say, you deserve a medal if you read this post in its entirety! |

| Hi, The people on this forum are passionate about the breed and are concerned greatly for its welfare, hence at times they appear strong in their replies. However their advice is genuine and awesome. Enjoy your new pup.

| Welcome to the forum, we look forward to discussions with you and to seeing pics of your new puppy when you bring him home! And please, do not hesitate to ask for advice. Some replies may seem a bit harsh depending on the subject matter, but you will still gain a great deal of education by asking. There are a great many knowledgeable people and breeders here so ask away, you won't be sorry in the long run!

| First, I want my medal now, please! If you're tough enough to handle a rottweiler, you're tough enough to handle a little sharp criticizm along the way ( ) so don't let that stop you. We didn't all receive masters degrees in tact and diplomacy! Bear with us, learn with us, and enjoy. |

| When I came to this forum after we got my rescued boy I knew less then you because we had about 2 hours to decide about him. I felt the same way. But, this place is an amazing knowlege base, and after thinking about the few times I've been spoken to less then kindly I needed it. Have fun and WELCOME!

| Congrats on the soon to be new puppy. You seemed to have been doing your homework, which is exellent. All the people here have been greatly helpful on my long journey with my new pup( actually adolecent now) LOL. Good for you about taking control of the OB training. Many people come here seeking advice, but have not even been to PK, or OB class. Which for the professionals here, can be alittle frustrating. Have fun in your journey, and most important enjoy the new pup.... Welcome to the forum :) I too would like that medal please!!!

| A good dose of common sense, a bit of thinking and an idea of where you want to go with your pup and you'll find yourself answering many of your own questions. There are lots of tricks to the trade, but not everything is all that tricky. Be honest with your pup, be fair and that will cover a great deal of ground.
