| peeing in the crate "Bayne" is 8 weeks now, I've had him since he was 6 weeks. He has been doing fine in the crate, no issues. Recently he has started peeing in the crate. I always make sure he goes before its crate time. And I dont let him stay in there no more than 4 hours at a time. Does anybody have any suggestions. Can a crate be to small? I haven't purchased his permanent crate yet, I'm using portable I've held on to from the past. The crate he is in now is for small pets. All he can do is turn around and stretch to sleep. I have a medium crate ready for him to move by next week. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. |

| Re: peeing in the crate Has he been to the vet to make sure that there are no medical issues going on? Also, this pup is still a baby. Maybe he can't hold it for that long. At that age, Julius was going out to potty at least every three hours. Just a thought....

| Re: peeing in the crate I'm with Brooke..at 8 weeks...four hours is way too long...at that age he needs to potty about every two to three hours. I don't think his crate is too small, from what you describe....he's just not getting out to pee often enough. At that age they need to pee as soon as they wake up; after eating; after drinking; after playing and I mean RIGHT after :o)

| Re: peeing in the crate please give him a chance hes just a baby i find 4 hours a long time myself.im sure he doesnt want to wet his sleep area so if you cant let him out sooner perhaps a bigger crate with newspaper at one end so he wont have to foul his bedding then when he is older move the news paper outside and he should wait to be let out our boy has been in a fullsize crate from 8 weeks and now at 5months he puts himself to bed and loves his crate terry in jersey c.i. |

| Re: peeing in the crate He needs to go out likely ever 2 hours or so. 4 hours is too long for an 8 wk old pup. I also wonder why you got him so young? The crate should be small enough that the pup doesn't have enough room to pee in one area, and sleep in another. Enough room to turn around, and sleep comfortably..but no larger. Puppies have to go potty after eating, playing, sleeping, etc lol. When Rocco first got here he was pretty much house trained and 4 mos old...but I still took him out every hour (and after each meal), as not to give him the chance to have any accidents. Also...when the pup has peed anywhere in the house or crate, you need to clean it with a pet odor neutralizer. Plain cleaners clean it well enough that WE cannot smell it...but the dog still can, and will naturally relieve itself where it smells like he should. |
