| Is there anything that you can do to correct a puppy's overbite? The puppy that I am considering has one. I will not want to show her, I just want her to be able to do normal things like chew on toys or play tug of war. Can an overbite make this type of play painful or can playing tug help strengthen the bottom teeth? Also, has anyone heard of an overbite making it hard for a puppy to later be trained for Sch. bite work? |

| Re: Correcting a puppy's overbite... overbites (top jaw longer than lower) in Rottweilers almost always self corrects as the dog gets older. If not completely then it does correct quite a bit

| Re: Correcting a puppy's overbite... Some correct, some do not. Depends upon how far overshot it is and the family propensity towards correcting these. In some lines, a bit of overshot is expected and almost always does correct. In mine, they start sissors and stay that way. If it is a big overbite I certainly would not assume it is going to correct. Also, if big, yes, it can cause problems and sometimes the baby canines will need to be pulled to keep from interfering with jaw development or puncuring into the roof of the mouth. If the breeder is selling this pup as a pet because of the overbite, I would assume s/he knows their lines and accept that you will have an overbite. |

| Re: Correcting a puppy's overbite... Most overbites will not affect daily life, though the more serious ones can, as mentioned above. It should not affect SchH bitework.
