New puppy moved in.

A couple weeks ago I asked about our “puppy” Brandy and our niece’s new puppy.
Well their puppy moved in with us a coupe days ago. Her son got really sick and they had to take him to the hospital (not related to the puppy). He was then transported to a children’s hospital about an hour away. He was admitted and will be there for about 2 weeks. My niece and her husband are both up with him near by the hospital and the puppy needed some one to watch him.

On the first night here Brandy went around the house and picked up all he toys and hides them. She even took some of the puppy’s toys as well. The puppy was a little nippy and we were working on correcting that, and Brandy stepped in. When the puppy starts to get nippy Brandy whispers in his ear (sometimes louder then a whisper) and then brings out a toy and takes it to the puppy for a little game of tug, but only after the nipping stops.
Now they were also in the process of house training. Brandy is also giving a hand with that too. When the puppy is out of his crate when she thinks he needs to go potty she’ll take him to the door. We are taking them both out at the same time and when he sees her going he does too. The puppy has been here since Friday and he's had no accident in the house.

The only thing that’s a “concern” to me is Brandy’s noise level. Sometimes when they are playing her grumbling is really loud. Up until the introduction of the puppy Brandy has never really been a talker. Also just wondering how much we should allow her to give corrections.

Re: New puppy moved in.

God when the three of mine get in a three way tug of war it sounds like a pack of lions going for it... LOL I can always tell when the rumble is turning nasty, and its usually my old girl saying to the eight month old "enough enough i need to rest" but its never a rumble its always a sharp bark!! And baby always knows " right better not annoy her anymore"

Brodie is very noisy when he is playing. It doesn't matter if it's one of his toys or another dog that he's playing with, he's just very vocal.

It sounds like Brandy is being a fantastic role model!

I would supervise their play just to make sure it doesn't get out of hand..

When my 3 play the sounds are incredible! You'd think they were killing each other.

I hope your niece's son is doing better.

Isn't it wonderful? I was never so pleased and amazed at what a sane, older dog can help you teach, than when we brought Raven home last summer. Sable gave some seroius thought and made every move just right! It was and is awesome!

I found Sable to be gentle and selective with her corrections. I did watch their encounters. But there wasn never a need to step in. Age may be a factor, as Sable is 3.
