Chasing Feet

I've read a bunch of threads about puppy nipping at feet and none really address one of my issues.

When I go outside with Mina, on a leash, to potty, after she goes, take her and let her run around with me. She's on the leash, but she is more interested in going after my feet than running nicely beside me. I tell her "No bite" or "No feet" and pull the leash away from my feet and try to keep her to the side, but she still goes after my feet and pant legs. If it gets too bad, I stop running with her and we go inside.
Is there anything else I can be doing?

BTW, She will be starting Basic Obedience classes on March 9th. They don't allow puppies under 14 weeks in the obedience class and March 9th is the one that starts soonest after she turns 14 weeks. The previous one starts on the 23rd of Feb, but she won't be 14 weeks til the 25th of Feb.

Re: Chasing Feet

It's very normal and you're responding appropriately. The only advice I have is to be consistent, narrow your correction down to one phrase or sound to avoid confusion, and be consistent. :) I use the same correction noise for all unwanted behavior, as that simplifies things.

Puppies really like to chase things, so perhaps you can also start some games like fetch that channel that urge into a more appropriate activity.

Re: Chasing Feet

Feet move and are accessible.

Redirect your drivey puppy with a rag and let the little bugger hang onto that instead of your foot.

Re: Chasing Feet

Thanks.

I'll try to stick with the "No Bite" for whenever she puts her mouth on something I don't want her to. She's getting a lot better about going to get a toy instead of our hands when I tell her "No Bite". I'll also try bringing her rope outside with us when we run. Maybe she will be more focused on keeping it in her mouth than my feet.

Re: Chasing Feet

We use an old rag tied to a rope and Niko still prefers it over many of the toys that we have bought him. I have a pair of white fluffy slippers that I cannot wear. For some reason he will go after them as soon as I put them on. He does not touch my black slippers or my running shoes any more... Just the white fluffies.
