| Re: 10wk pup keeps play biting us! Quote snippet "There a lots of proven training methods to help correct your puppy's behavioral problems. Before I get into the specific techniques you can use to stop your puppy from biting, always keep these general dog behavior training rules in mind: Puppy socialization [ the 8 week rule is a farce if they did not have litter mates to play with so know that as well] and bite inhibition training go hand in hand. Never slap or hit your puppy in the face. This does not work! Your puppy will just think you are playing or could become afraid of you. This may even lead to some much bigger problems than simple puppy nipping. ... Your goal to start with is to teach your puppy how to control the force of his/her biting. Your puppy's littermates will initiate this process and then it is up to you to continue on with it when your new puppy arrives home. This will ensure (not guarantee) that if your dog does bite someone in the future the damage will be minimized. When you have given your puppy sufficient feedback regarding the strength of his bite only then can you begin to reduce the prevalence of the biting behavior. If you catch the biting problem early on it may be easy to rectify. Just try to redirect the biting from your flesh to a toy or chew bone. For very young puppies this method is often all you'll need do. As soon as your pup starts to bite your hands just let out a firm "No!" and replace your fingers with the chew toy (or ice cube if your puppy is teething). " end snipet quaote .. There is alot of information given here as was stated .. but sorry no linking was done to take you directly to maybe help .. seek out answers from a forum where they give the answers use sticky and do not ever return attitude and elitist ownership tactics.. I raised my 10.5 year rottie SCH2 (she passed on this december) on "THE MONK BOOK" lent it out and trying to locate it again .. have new rottie KELEV - just under 8 weeks with little to no socialization.. so grr he will be different than her i see already .. and can sympathize with the puppy biting issue at this time. I hop you will find info ..the above cmae from external inks and I am new here been lurking and reading seeing wonderful responses and then the tarnished side that u met earlier... I did not post outside link as i could believe there are good infromative things in here .. ** You will definitley need to make lemonade alot from some retorts you rcv - but have heart and remember it is the puppy you are trying to help not the human interaction failures and stay focused on your goal of the former .. :P good luck |
