Re: i have a biting puppy Well, from your other threads I assume you brought this puppy to your place too early. Yes, you're going to have to spend a LOT of time teaching him proper bite inhibition because he didn't have the chance to be taught by his littermates/mother. It took MONTHS for my dog to get over biting. There are dozens and dozens of threads on puppy biting/bite inhibition here. I would suggest you use the search bar and look into what you have to do to get this under control.

Re: i have a biting puppy Just redirecting him to a toy is not enough - you need to bring the toy to "life" for him because that's what the attraction is with puppy biting - your fingers wiggle and move. Always have a stuffed toy handy and treats in your pocket, and when he goes for you, say "AH!AH!" and immediately redirect him to the toy......and then PLAY with him with the toy...shake it, wiggle it, swoop it across the floor and tell him "this is what you get to bite - good puppy!" Praise him for playing with the toy! Then bring a treat out and offer it to him so he will drop the toy - take the toy and give him the treat. You can begin a foundation for the "Out" command while redirecting his puppy biting. You will need to repeat this hundreds of times! Have you enrolled him in puppy class yet?

| You have a very normal puppy. ![]() Start by reading all of the "stickies" in the Puppy Development forum. This is a good one to start with: http://www.rottweiler.net/forums/pup...ppy-101-a.html Gina

Re: i have a biting puppy Suzi was an avid finger biter when I brought her home. My husband used to say we brought home a baby piranha. I am a first time owner, but can tell you what worked for us. She had a lot of different types of chew toys. When we would pick her up to pet her we always had one of those toys with her. We used to call it her pacifier. Anyway, this seemed to deter her from using us as her chew toy and also seemed to keep her off of the things we did not want her to chew...shoes, furniture etc...After the addition of the things such as her Nyla bone and frozen beef bones, she eventually grew out of the stage and shows no interest in anything but her chew toys. I hope this helps.

Re: i have a biting puppy It's called "bite inhibition". This is what very young puppies learn primarily from their dam and littermates. If they bite too hard, playmates won't play with them and momma will discipline them without harming them. New owners continue teaching this by redirection to appropriate toys the puppy can bite and puppies learn that teeth on skin is not something they are permitted to do. It takes many repetitions over a period of several weeks and months for the puppy to truly learn that toys are for biting, and people are not.

Re: i have a biting puppy Actually bite inhibition is to reduce the force of the bite more than the frequency. Both really but the force is the more important part of it.
