Rottweiler puppy biting my Pug all the time My puppy male rottweiler "Brownie" is now 11.5 weeks. I got him at 7 weeks old from the breeder. I have a 6 year old male pug who is so laid back...never barks, doesn't bite, really friendly BUT Brownie (my puppy) is always biting my pug... and my pug is always running away from him. WHAT CAN I DO TO STOP MY ROTTIE PUPPY FROM BITING MY POOR PUG? My husband even mentioned to get a muzzle for our puppy or to stick him in his create when he bites but I don't know about that. I've tried holding his muzzle shut for a few seconds and saying "NO" but that doesn't seem to work... he just keeps chasing my poor pug and climbing on top of him and biting his ears, his curly tail, his legs, etc. Help! He also bites my husband and I but we can deal with it better than my poor pug. I guess it's just play biting but his teeth are so sharp... it hurts!

Re: Rottweiler puppy biting my Pug all the time NO MUZZLE. That is NOT teaching the puppy anything - it will only frustrate him and likely escalate the behavior. If the pug doesn't put the puppy in his place, then you need to keep them separate when unsupervised, and step in when the puppy gets too rough. Instead of punishing the puppy for doing something he has no idea is wrong, redirect to a toy every time - SHOW THE PUPPY WHAT HE CAN DO and REWARD him for THAT. Keep a leash on the puppy if needed. It's not fair to the pug to be jumped on/chewed on by a rascal puppy, and it's not fair to the puppy to just let him do it - he needs help to learn to be gentle with your pug and you can only do that by actively teaching him and showing him what he CAN do.....he's a puppy and has to do something! Is this puppy in puppy classes?

Re: Rottweiler puppy biting my Pug all the time Thanks Mondog & Bliss! I knew that a muzzle was not a good idea... I will make sure my hubby knows that too! I read the links that Bliss posted and were very helpful. He is not in any classes yet. I moved to a small town in Texas about 4 weeks ago and it seems there's not much to do around here ![]() I asked the vet if she knew of any training classes and she told me there is a local kennel club that offers classes twice a year but the next one won't be until February 2010! I'm definitely enrolling him but I guess before that time, I will have to try to teach him basic things myself. I will make sure to separate my puppy & my pug when he starts biting him and redirect him to his toys. If I need to correct him, I can put him on a leash or put him in his crate. Hopefully this works... Thanks again!
