Question pant biting /nipping & refuse to walk

hi All... things are going pretty well with my Diesel (10 1/2 weeks old now) but I am having trouble with some things and would love training advice.

1. he runs up to me and bites at my clothes, or my 9 year old daughter's clothes... he gets his teeth in them and pulls... sometimes ripping them. sometimes he lets go with a "leave it" command... and I give praise when he does.... why does he do this and is there a better way to handle it? it's really frustrating (and scary for my daughter)

2. after above interactions, when I get him to stop biting the clothes he puts his head down, butt up and snarls and nips , snapping at me in the air... what is the best way to handle this? I know he is a puppy... but his behavior is scaring my daughter (and THAT I can't have)

3. he won't go for walks.... he stops and refuses to move........ I WANT so badly to get him more excercise but it's soooo difficult with him refusing to go. I have gotten him on some walks by kicking a soccer ball in front of us and letting him follow it... with lots of praise... is there a better way? and why? thanks!

Puppy's bite, actually they pretty much explore the world teeth first. He may look feroscious, but it sounds like he's just playing. Tug-a-pant leg is annoying and can get expensive but be patient. Redirect and praise for chewing his toys, then redirect, redirect, and redirect some more. How far do you get on walks before he stops?

My female Rottie puppy also refused to walk around the same age.... I had to entice her with treats for a few weeks to get her to go on a walk. After awhile I slowly reduced the amount of treats and now she gets excited whenever I pick up a lease. Most Rotts will do anything for a treat!

Re: pant biting /nipping & refuse to walk

he'll go down the street (we live on a dead end and he knows most of the neighbors) but once we get to the end he sits and won't budge unless I tug hard on the leash. he is doing better though.... yeserday he went for a long walk with me... and stayed at my side , I gave him "good boy" praise the whole time and at home gave him a treat....so maybe improving (he walks better on way back than on way out)

thanks for the biting encouragement! it helps to know I am doing ok and have to just persist and be patient. He really is a good dog and I have much faith in him ;)
