Re: wont stand down to bigger dogs

the only thing i think that needs to change is him walking up to people, he does it because so many people just come up to him and see him cause his blue eye, so he just thinks everyone wants to see him that needs to change, and the dog thing its normal for dogs to play and sometimes geta little ruff, its not full size dogs that he plays with its puppies between 3 and 4 months but they are a little bigger than him, he never plays with dogs that are more than that, his temper is the best thing about him he almost has none,

Please explain what you mean.

How old was he when he was separated from his littermates?

Nope, the most important thing that needs to change is that you get into obedience training with your dog. He can't walk up to people if you have him on lead.

Did the owner of bulldog puppy that your dog injured want you to pay the vet fees for his dog?

Re: wont stand down to bigger dogs

I agree with the posts here 100%.

A 3 month old puppy should not be at an off leash dog park. A puppy should be on a leash, you never know what can happen to him if he is attacked by another dog or if he bites someone, puppies have SHARP teeth!

He should be introduced to the dogs ON the leash.

Enroll him into obedience. Did you do puppy group where he socialized with other puppies in a controlled environment (ie at the vets or petsmart i think you call it)?

When you let a dog off leash they must have been taught the recall. You want your puppy/dog to come to you when you call it. Imagine letting him off to play and you call and he doesn't 'want' to come back, he's running around with other dogs LEARNING to ignore you!! This is a very important stage in obedience. At the off leash area at our Dog Club, we must call our dogs every 90 seconds - when we are off leash we are still training, limited training, but still teaching the dog when she is called she is to come.

I would seriously recommend obedience training for your puppy NOW before this gets way out of hand and complaints are made or worse your dog is hurt or hurts another dog.

First of all, at his age, it's a GOOD thing for him to walk up to strangers and be curious and happy about their presence! If he didn't, that's when I'd be worried, as he would be displaying fear or uncertainty!

It's not necessary for him to play with other dogs, especially at this age. It's necessary for him to be building trust, respect and a bond with YOU.

While a weekly play date with KNOWN dogs (in someone's backyard is preferable) is fine, the time he spends with you he should be exploring the world, learning his boundaries and learning to look to you for leadership - he's not going to do this on his own as you are the one who took on the job to help him.

I too am curious about this statement:

I haven't read this in any of the responses to you. What I've read are responses from fellow rottweiler enthusiasts who are concerned for the safety and welfare of your pup.

What is it exactly that you think will happen soon?

Please read the stickies in the Puppy Forum. They should help you understand things a little better.

Re: wont stand down to bigger dogs

your puppy should never be in that position. you have to protect your pup from bigger dogs playing rough with him. you gotta have your dogs back. Dont allow him to be pinned down by a bigger dog, unless they are both having fun playing

Moe this is what you wrote and this is the situation we are commenting on.
We only have the information you provide.
Get yourself and your dog into training before something happens that you will regret for a very long time.

Re: wont stand down to bigger dogs

So if your dog is perfect and you have no issue or have an excuse for every educated response given, why did you post a thread at all?

This forums is for advice and learning, if you don't want to learn, don't ask for help.

Re: wont stand down to bigger dogs

I agree with all the posts but one point is missing, it is not in the rotties nature to back down, I would be a little concerned if a rotti was backing down from all dogs, meaning he/she is not sure of themself, but also he/she should not be overly aggressive.

We are talking about a 12 week old puppy here. A puppy SHOULD defer to its elders.......not doing so is a good way to get killed, especially in a pack situation.
