If you want to let a puppy that is ATTACKING your hand be a puppy, feel free. Next time you reply you can do that with your bloody stumps.

Do me a favor, next time you feel like replying to a post of mine, don't. I have no interest in your opinions from here on out.

Just wanted to say that I've encountered the same problem on this forum. There are a few members here who are very helpful and compassionate, while there are many others who ever very negative. They are quick to tell you to "rehome" your dog and indicate that you are not capable or willing to invest the time, love, and energy needed to take care of a dog. I have been extremely discouraged from coming to this site for advice because I feel that many of the members here are just waiting to attack and criticize.

With puppy or wife, you have to use what is important to who is receiving the reward. With your wife, try diamonds! GUARANTEED to work very well!

To be perfectly honest here, the simple truth is that we are all different, we all have our own style of communication, and whether you throw the baby out with the bath water or not is out of our hands....it's totally up to you.

Re: "Selective" Aggression problem

There's a book called "Don't Shoot the Dog". My husband was reimbursed by his company for the purchase. It's a book on shaping animal behavior that is used as a training manual for managers. I was going to post this earlier but thought that it sounded really bad. Clearly though people are starting to get that humans aren't that much different from other species when it comes to positive reinforcement.

Re: "Selective" Aggression problem

Something that works for us when drying the dogs paws is to use the word "Gotcha"
But, then they were older when we got them. But here is what we did. Touch a paw, say "Gotcha" if the dog accepts, immediately give a treat accompanied by verbal praise. Grab the collar for putting on the lead, say "Gotcha" if dog accepts, immediately give a treat & verbal praise. We have used that in a variety of situations and no longer have to treat.

That said, with your puppy maybe it would work better to have a towel ready when you or the wife comes in from outside. Then, sit down with the towel in your lap and lay the puppy over the towel, then gently handle each paw and pat dry.

I agree, I have came across a good amount of posts here where people answer pretty aggressively, they may have the best trained dogs but it is a shame that they -the owners- are the ones that need some "obedience training" and "socialization" lol! However, fortunately there are those that provide great advice without the "attitutude".
