Murphy's Oil Soap - Good For Bathing?

Someone told me today that they use Murphy's Oil Soap to bathe their dog.

I Googled it, and the opinions i've read are 50-50. It's supposed to be good for the coat, and kill fleas.

Thought I'd ask the experts here if they had ever heard of using Murphy's, and if it is recommended.

Thanks.

I wouldn't use it to bathe my dogs and ANY soap kills fleas.

I would not use it to bathe a dog. I've used it to wash my saddle, and bridle and, leather leashes. It smells strong like Pinesol.
I think it would be hard on the skin and not healthy at all.

Buy a nice dog shampoo, and if you have fleas put your dog on flea preventative , or a HW/flea preventative like Revolution.

I can tell you that if I did that to Annie I'd be spending the next 6 months at the vet as she is allergic to the stuff. I used to wash my floors with it and she had a dalmations worth of spots with no hair and scabs. After many hundreds at the vet we figured it out... poor thing

I thought it was an odd recommendation....we'll stick with what we use now.

Re: Murphy's Oil Soap - Good For Bathing?

I have also heard of people using Murphys oil soap as well to wash their dogs. I read that someone said they wash their dogs in it and it makes their coat really shiny and they smell nice too. I personally don't think I would use it. Its meant to clean wood and leather, not dogs. I would just stick with some good dog shampoo and not risk anything.

I heard somewhere that they use it to wash elephants. Not really relevant to the conversation, but I thought it was interesting.

There are enough good dog products out there that I can't imagine any value added by using that instead of dog shampoo.

Could they have meant Dr.Bronner's soap? This one would work.
