Re: Does my puppy have dandruff

Hi

when we got our pup at 8 wks old he had quite bad dandruff. we started to add tuna and sardines into his food twice a week and it really helped his coat and the dandruff went. so thats what worked for us.

Re: Does my puppy have dandruff

You can groom all you want to, but you also need to address the dog underneath the dandruff. You can probably get rid of a lot of it with a little Listerine sprayed on a handtowel and rubbing the pup down.

To prevent it from coming back, consider why the pup has dandruff. What are feeding him? Is your home unusually dry? Is he dirty?

Re: Does my puppy have dandruff

This might be a silly question but is this Listerine as in "mouth wash" my boy seems to suffer from dandruff but just one spot in the middle of his back the rest of his coat seems fine??

Post Re: Does my puppy have dandruff

Since you got him from a BYB, and he has coccidia and did not have a good start right from the beginning...I'm not surprised that he has dandruff.

I think you mentioned in another thread that you were feeding Purina Puppy Chow.? Get him off of the crap, and onto a quality food, and his coat will improve. Give him a bath with a mild, puppy shampoo, get him on a better diet and he will start looking healthy.

Puppy dandruff is a very common condition because the sebaceous glands that lubricate the skin are not yet fully active. Gentle brushing will help stimulate the glands. A good diet will help provide the nutrients his body needs to keep his skin healthy.

If the dandruff is accompanied by hair loss he should see a vet to make sure there's not another underlying condition causing it.
