Boiled Chicken vs. Boiled Ground Beef for Diarrhea

Could be a number of reasons - changed her to adult food, started giving her Ester-C, could have picked up a tummy virus of some sorts. Not really sure. Just trying to get her thru it.

Sorry all for not replying sooner! I have been trying to cram 5 days worth of errands into the 2 day weekend - it's never an easy task! But thanks to all for your help and advice!! Sascha seems to be doing better today. I'm definitely sticking with the boiled chicken & rice for her upsets. It always works and as they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'm going to introduce a bit of kibble back in tonight's dinner. We've also been giving her "treats" of frozen yogurt cubes & frozen pumpkin cubes.

I have never used Probiotics and quite honestly don't know anything about them. I'm definitely uneducated when it comes to those. But would welcome any education you could provide me. Anything to help my girl out, I'm always willing to learn about. Thanks again everyone!!!

Hello Oh wow, boiled chicken and rice... brings back memories of the ordeal I went through with my girl Bessy. Same thing - she always had diarrhea, which seemed to be sparked off by just about anything: puppy training class, switching food, new supplements.

Anyway, the trick is to go slow with things. Ester-C definitely causes loose stool! Also, once you've identified a food she does well on, stick with it. I had to try at least 5 different brands of kibble before finding out Bessy does very well on California Natural chicken & rice (the fewer ingredients the better).

Probiotics are friendly bacteria for the stomach (or something like that). Bessy's problem was that she's easily stressed/excited, and this triggers her stomach to go into overdrive and ta-dah... loose poop!

You can get probiotics in either capsules (from the pharmacy) or by giving yoghurt. I give Bessy a spoonful of yogurt with her kibbles every day. You'll need to wait for Sascha's tummy to get well first though before giving her any of these stuff.

Slow and easy does it You'll need lots of patience. But trust me when I tell you, when you see your dog all healthy and happy it's totally worth it! Today, Bessy's stomach is wayyyy better!

Your dog may just be a sensitive type of dog, which I have.
I find that the probiotics from Walmart not to be that great.
I have Dodge on a daily dose of dogzymes that I buy from naturesfarmacy.
I buy a 2 lb canister of powder and it lasts a very long time. I think it's about 45 bucks with shipping, and I am only starting on my second canister in a year and a half.
You can find them on the net.
This has lots of different live bacteria, unlike what you would buy at walmart which is acidophillis. I found that yogurt just did not contain enough to help Dodge out. And pumpkin which some people swear by just gave us orange squirts.
Anyhow, once I found this Dodge never had a problem at all until the new Canidae fiasco, and since then we have had two bouts of runs which cleared up easily with a couple of days of chicken and rice diet. Also I mixed a little extra of my dogzymes powder with water and added it.
Daily I use one small scoop which is included, in each meal, put it in a plastic bowl, add a little water, it dissolves very easily, then add his food to that and dump it into his food bowl.
I did some more reading on probiotics when my premature granddaughter had colic and gas, and the studies are quite impressive. They are recommending a daily dose of these for infants now for colic, and they are suggesting that they will also ward off allergies and asthma in children. My SIL has asthma and allergies, so even when the colic quit my daughter continues to give the baby a daily dose of infant probiotics. She is now almost 10 months old and no allergies to any foods so far even though she is eating mostly people food now.
If you look on the net and call naturesfarmacy ask for Jeanette, she will probably yack your ear off, but she is very knowledgeable about the subject. She raises great danes and they are even more prone to bloat than our breed, and she uses the dogzymes for bloat prevention as well.
I am pretty sure that Dodge is sensitive to barley and millett and other nasty grains, and when I got him his tummy was a mess, they were using some midgrade chicken and rice food on him.
I doubt it's the chicken he's sensitive to because the chicken and rice diet works great when he does get the runs. He also gets chicken breast for treats, he can eat cheese, beef or hotdogs for treats with no ill effects. I do buy hard treats for him too, either California Natural or Natural Balance with no problems.
Not trying to "sell" the dogzymes, I have no interest in the company I am just telling you that it works so well for me that I don't hesitate to recommend it for dogs that have tummy issues. Once you make the initial investment it is very cheap to use, and what a relief being able to pick up dog poop, rather than hosing it off the yard!!!
I think some people here use one called nzymes too and they also swear by it. I have never done a cost comparison, I just use what I know works well for my boy. Also when the runs do strike, they suggest mixing an extra dose with water and either syringing it into the dogs mouth, or I just mix it in water and the dog loves to drink it from a bowl.
