anyone using the Peticure nail filer?

I currently clip my dogs nails but my sister got a peticure filer for her small dogs and wondering if anyone has used it on their rottis or other large dogs and how it worked for you. My sister used to use a dremel tool but she swears this Peticure filer is much safer. (anyone agree?) Now that Sasha is getting bigger it seems the the clippers are making her uncomfortable and im lookin for a new way to trim them.
Thanks

If you do a search in this forum for Peticure, you'll find a few posts about it...seems like the jury is still out...many members here just use a Dremmel.

Re: anyone using the Peticure nail filer?

I use a mini-mite Dremel tool on my dogs that I paid $23 for. It works for us.

I thought about the Peticure, but they seem relatively pricey ($50-$60) to me. Plus you have to wait 4-6 weeks for it to even ship!

Re: anyone using the Peticure nail filer?

I borrowed a friend's Pedicure tool and thought that it just wasn't powerful enough for Rottie nails. But, that's just my $.02.

Re: anyone using the Peticure nail filer?

I use the peticure and it works just fine on my dog's nails. The only benefit I can see is that there is a guard on the end.

I can't see that it's really any different than a dremel though.

I don't dislike it, but I'm not sure I would invest in another one.

Re: anyone using the Peticure nail filer?

I did some research on this yesterday and it seems most people are not impressed with the product or the company. They said the battery does not hold a charge and the tool gets weak pretty quick. I guess the company pretty much ignored the first complaints, but have finally gotten around to replying, and have replaced some of the batteries. I think I would wait. I did watch the commercial closely, and I am pretty sure that when they were supposedly doing the dogs and cat's nails the thing wasn't even running. LOL. No wonder they were being so good.
I just use a plain old dremmel, and watch closely while I am grinding.
Sometimes I would not mind a smaller one but I can't justify spending the money when the one I have works, it's just a bit bulky at times.

I think you can buy the Flexi attachment for the dremel seperate. It is about 18 inches long and the end that you attach the bits to is only about an inch wide and just long enough to fit in the hand comfortable. The smaller end makes it easier to angle at the foot. There is also a smaller 1/8 inch sanding band for smaller projects.

i need to get maxx used to the dremel tool.. I have seen how efficient this little device can truly be and well worth it every penny.
On the other hand now he allows me to clip his nails with no issues what so ever.. so I just hope the transition to a different device is the same... XD

I stick to the plain old cail clippers and touch up her nails (we call it her "pet-icure"). It doesn't bother her one bit. I guess she's used to it.

Re: anyone using the Peticure nail filer?

I had seen the ad on TV for the Peticure nail grinder and bookmarked the site in my Favorites for future reference. I own a cordless Dremel tool and have been very satisfied with that for grinding my Rottweiler's and Weimaraner's nails. More recently, I have been receiving a lot of E-mails for a comparable tool to the Peticure, but when I looked at it, there appeared to be only one size guide for the nail. On the other hand, the Peticure instrument has several size holes. However, having already invested in a Dremel tool, I was hesitant to purchase another so similar in design. When I recently checked out the Peticure site, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they offer an attachment for certain models of the Dremel tool to make it very similar to the Peticure instrument, with a very reasonable price. And it did state that the delivery time was 6 to 8 weeks due to the demand. I purchased the attachment, called a nail guard, and was pleased to have it delivered in only about 2 weeks. To say the least, I am very happy with this attachment as it serves as a guide for the dog's nails and prevents the grinder from taking off too much at a time. All of my dogs accepted it readily and it has made nail grooming very easy for me. I would definitely recommend this attachment to anyone who has a Dremel tool already. However, it doesn't fit the Dremel Mini Mite.

Re: anyone using the Peticure nail filer?

I’m not sure if it’s the Peticure or just the rotary tool in general but it has been a life saver for us. No one has been able to cut my boys nails, The Vet couldn’t do it, and groomers couldn’t do it. My wife and I and a giant grilled steak couldn’t do it and he is very very food driven.

I was able to have them cut twice however. One time it took FIVE vet techs 4 holding one clipping. The other time he was under for a minor surgery

Anyway we bought the Peticure as a last resort and after about a week I am able to touch each nail for a second or two.

Because of the guide it is a lot easier to use. Just push the nail in the hole and take off as much nail as possible in the short window of time you have. "Timing is critical “ .

After a while I could probably use a Dremmel without an attachment and get the same results. But right now as he’s getting more used to it the guide makes the timing alott easier.

If it was not for the guide Id say get a Dremmel. BUT if you have nail trimming freak outs the guide is a win.

It took 2 weeks form ordered to delivered
