Colitis vs Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Background:
My almost 10-year-old Rottie girl had a nerve cell tumor removed about 2 months ago. About 1 month later she developed hemorrhagic colitis. She's never really had formed stools since and had massive diarrhea the other night and went back to the vet. The above is basically his diagnosis.

She's back on an antibiotics and special food (Hill's Prescription Diet i/d). Prior she at Canidae. The vet thought she might be developing a food allergy. For a 10 pound bag I paid almost $27.

Do you have any recommendations for possible new food?

Kat

Post Re: Colitis vs Irritable Bowel Syndrome

I've had owner's that were feeding their dogs I/D diet change to California Natural Chicken & Rice with very good results. The simpler the food the better. What is the type of protein in the food that she is on now? If it's chicken, then stick with a chicken based food.

Make sure you do the change very slowly...adding only a couple of the new kibbles at a time...till you know things are going well.
Also at the age of 10 and already having cancer removed, I would not be surprised if the cancer has spread....it's so common in this breed.

Re: Colitis vs Irritable Bowel Syndrome

They said the type of cancer she has wouldn't spread, but could possible reoccur in the same spot (next to her stub).

Thanks for your help!
