| Canidae "All Life Stages" - how is this good? Hi Everyone - I'm new to the site. Have a 14 wk okd male Rottie named Deebo. He's currently on Innova. We had considered switching to Canidae, however I am glad I joined this forum to find so much info. I was wondering if any of you had wondered how Canidae could be good for "all life stages"? I mean, let's think about this - in addition to a puppy, Rottweilers are large-breed puppies. How can 1 formula be sufficient for regular puppies, large-breed, adult, and senior dogs? It just doesn't make sense. With concerns with large breeds and rapid growth, protein and calcium levels, etc. I wanted some answers. Unfortunately, a Canidae representative did NOT call me back. Sorry to babble, I was just wondering if I was the only one that wondered about the "all life stage" theory. Thanks for listing and please share your thoughts! |

| Re: Canidae "All Life Stages" - how is this good? I too was wondering about this for a long time. Being bombarded by marketing gimmicks (I'm in advertising - so I KNOW marketing gimmicks when I see it, heck I write these stuff!!) about puppy food, large breed formulas etc etc. But just think about it - in the wild, puppies eat the same stuff as adults. There are no natural puppy meats in the wild! Do a search in the forums. Lots of more experienced owners have posted about this topic! |

| Re: Canidae "All Life Stages" - how is this good? For me, this is what it comes down to. They all eat from the same kill.

| Re: Canidae "All Life Stages" - how is this good? Oh crap, just re-read this and realised I made it sound as if dogs eat puppy meat What I meant to say is... natural meats for puppies! |

| Re: Canidae "All Life Stages" - how is this good? I was wondering the same thing. I have read that there should be 1:1 ratio of clacium and phosphorous for large breed puppies. I dont know what canidae is. I think that in the wild, animals bodies can detect what nutrients they need, so they will eat (or try to get) what their bodies are lacking and not over eat what they have enough of . Domesticated, they dont really have a choice but to eat what is in front of them. I'm no expert though. I would like to know that ratio. I would like to switch to canidae. |

| Re: Canidae "All Life Stages" - how is this good? CanidaeŽ Pet Foods: All Life Stages: Dry Here ... this gives you all the info you would need. Beware, their formula has changed and some long time Canidae users have had to find different foods as their dogs aren't doing well on the new formula. It is still a decent food, but not like it was.

As PPs stated, wild pups eat what the adults eat.Shayv -- yes, you want to find a formula that has the Cal:Phos ratio as close to 1:1 as you can for slow, optimal growth. I don't think there's a brand out there that hits it right on the nose though. Canidae used to be very close, but now that their formula changed, I'm not sure if the ratio has changed or not. I'm sure you can find it on their website. |
