| Innova and Allergies Been reading the posts about the California Natural food. Max has been on Innova Adult for about 1 1/2 months now. My question is: How long does it normally take for food allergies to show up? He's been itching a little more than normal, his neck, legs and tail area. His poops are the same as they've always been, firm at the beginning and then they get mushy last little bit. (sorry for the detail). His coat is shiny and soft. His eyes haven't been any more boogered up than on his first food (iams large breed). The Innova has turkey in it as the main ingredient and I'm not sure if this is his problem or not. My animals are on Frontline Plus for fleas and I have been checking both dogs and cannot seam to find any signs of fleas. Someone in Cleasmommy's posts said that to feed the Chicken and Rice because the Herring and Sweet Pototo was not high enough in protein and fat. According to their web site, they are both the same (21% protein and 11% fat.) Although in the Chicken and Rice the guaranteed analysis protein is 21% but under the nutrient analysis the protein is 25%. Why the big difference in the numbers. The Lamb & Rice has the highest protein (22.56%) but the calcium/phosphorous ratio is 2:1, (2.14% to 1.33%), so I believe I'll be staying away from that for now. All foods are lower in calories than the Innova so I'd actually end up feeding him more of the California Natural. Am I correct in thinking that?

QUOTE] I Am interested to hear the responses to this question...we have the same type of poops (could this be overfeeding?) and the itchiness as well. His itchness from the flea dermatitis has mostly cleared up but there is still general itchiness in his neck leg and tail area. I actually tried him on the Cal Nat Herring & Sweet Potato before I knew that his main itchy problem was from the fleas, so now I'm not sure if it helped this other issue or not! |

| Re: Innova and Allergies Just as I was falling in love with Innova yesterday Lexi's left eye started weeping white yellowish boogies!! She's never really had them before on any food, really, and hers are always darker. I've only fed her about a bag or so. Could it be the turkey? She's a lil itchy too... She's tried several different proteins and never an eye problem so I'm not sure how to proceed. This morning her eye was all white along the bottom lid when she woke up. Would it be white/yellow from a food allergy? |

| Re: Innova and Allergies Could the frontline be causing the itchies? I would say that if it's been close to 2 months you would be seeing wether the food means improvement or not. If you want to run the experiment, why not try the california natural lamb and rice...it has no chicken and no turkey which have been protien sources in both foods. As for food and goopy eyes, a white discharge is a sign of infection and I'd have it looked at.

| Re: Innova and Allergies I started feeding my 3 dogs Innova after Canidae switched their formula, and I have noticed one of my dogs has been biting her feet more. I am thinking she is having an allergy to the food. I think I am going to try Orijen now, and see how they do. |

| Re: Innova and Allergies Are you sure it's food allergies your dog has? It's summer time, maybe he has insect bites like mosquitoes or chiggars. You said it was on his legs mostly? When you walk him, does he ever step through tall grass? |
