Big thanks to the Rottweiler forum and Canidae food!!!

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone on here for showing me the light as far as finding a good quality dog food for my dog.

As for Zeus, within a week being on Canidae ALS he's already showing HUGE signs of improvement from the food!! His dandruff is now COMPLETELY gone, his coat looks more beautiful than ever, shedding has dropped down to a minimum, and his energy level is through the roof. He was eating Purina dog chow his whole life until now, and I can honestly say I'll NEVER go back to an off-shelf dog food again. I can't believe the changes already.

Looking forward to having my Rott healthy and around a long time on a good diet. Thanks again guys!

Thumbs up Re: Big thanks to the Rottweiler forum and Canidae food!!!

Glad to hear it! A good quality food makes a big difference....and until you change to a better food most people do not realize that their dogs look crappy.

Canidae has changed it's formula....added a few extra things....but it is still a decent food.

Re: Big thanks to the Rottweiler forum and Canidae food!!!

Well unfortunately it's the best "good" dog food I can afford right now. I got the 40lb bag for $47 out the door at a local Pet specialty place, and Zeus is already half way through it in less than 7 days.

Canidae will have to be the best I can do for now. I can't afford $200/month for dog food.

BigZeus,

He's eating 20 pounds of food a WEEK? Maybe someone else will correct me, but that seems like an awful lot of food. How many cups per feeding is he getting?

Yeah, truly 40 lbs should last 4-6 weeks for a moderate quality food; higher quality, even longer 'cause you feed a little less.

Also just wanted to let you know, I priced Canidae and found in several places for around $32 (40 lb), so I'd check out a few other stores, could save you quite a bit of beans. ;)

Congrats btw, glad to hear you're dog's doing better on the new grub!

That is way to much Canidae for him to be eating. He should eating more like 3 to 3.5 cups aday spread over 2 meals. This is a much better food than Purina so you need a lot less. I know, I am a former Purina feeder. A 33 pound bag of Innova last me 15 days for 4 dogs, an no one is skinny.

Shybird, bet you still spend a bundle on your pet food with 4 big bears (not to mention toys, treats, classes and vets!!!)

Re: Big thanks to the Rottweiler forum and Canidae food!!!

That does sound like alot of food.
My dog was on Canidae Lamb and Rice until they changed the formula. Dodge is 2 and weighs 94 lbs and he ate 3 1/2 cups a day split into two meals.
If I remember right the calorie content is even a little higher in the ALS than the lamb and rice.
You certainly don't need to feed him the same amount he was eating of the Purina.
I would compare the calorie counts and try and feed him the same amount of calories he was getting provided his weight is where it should be.
I am glad he is doing well his new food, it makes a big difference in shiny eyes, coats and their energy levels.

Re: Big thanks to the Rottweiler forum and Canidae food!!!

Sorry guys I forgot to mention, my live-in girlfriend has two 4yr old boxers too (Zeus's best buddies). So they're munching on the new diet as well. Thats why we go through food so fast, and thats why I have to stick with something of B+ quality thats still affordable. I'm sure there's better stuff out there, but we don't have $200-300/month to spend on dog food.

What does everyone mean about Canidae changing their formula? Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
