Re: Opinion on Max for Large Breed Puppy

Nutro Max? It's awful. It has hardly any meat, corn fillers and by-products.

For a few more dollars you can put him on Canidae ALS. It's the best dog food for the price and has excellent ingredients!

edit: just browse around, it's easy to find great kibble on these forums. Some to look at are Canidae, Innova (adult), Orijen large breed puppy. A good rule of thumb is finding a kibble with 3 meat in the first 5 ingredients. Also no corn, glutten, wheat, soy or by-products.

Finish the Nutro Max...it will not hurt to keep puppy on it for a short time longer.
Nutro Max is the poorest in quality of all of the Nutro foods.
Take a look at the back of the bag...and tell us what the first 5 ingredients are. If I remember right it's very little meat and lots of corn.

Canidae ALS is an excellent food, you will have to feed less...it's got more meat and higher in calories.

Re: Opinion on Max for Large Breed Puppy

I would return it from where you bought it. Most chains stores (petco, petsmart, walmart) will accept it, even if opened. Just say your dog did not like it. If they don't accept it, then just mix it in with Canidae (or which ever premium brand you buy) so it doesn't go to waste :)

Gina, here's the first 5: Chicken Meal, Ground Rice, Corn Gluten Meal, Rice Bran, Wheat Flour.
