| Re: What is the best food? It just depends on the dog. I feel a home prepared diet is the best diet for any dog :) As far as kibble goes my Rottweiler did horrible on Canidae, Innova, Wellness, Nature's Variety raw instinct grain free she did extremely poorly on that food. She did excellent on California Natural, Nature's Variety (normal food), solid Gold I took her off kibble completely and switched to NRG dehydrated - which she did excellent on. As far as canned food she did extremely well on canned innova (couldn't tolerate the kibble tho), natures variety instinct canned only, zinpro canned only, Canidae canned etc. She did very well on canned food & dehydrated and I saw a huge improvement in her after taking her off kibble . Now she is on home prepared and doing even better. What worked best for my Rottie may not be the best foods for your Rottie...for example I know many Rotties that did extremely well on Innova...Athena did horrible on that food as she did not tolerate it well. I also had her on Eukanuba when she was a younger & she did poorly on that as well. |

I don't think you have the same variety as we have in North America. We have some members here from Australia and they are very happy feeding their dogs Eagle Pack Holistic. You should be feeding a dog food that contains mostly meat...and uses human grade meats. There should be at least 3 named meats in the first 5 ingredients. Should be no corn, wheat, soy or contain any by-products. Gina

| Re: What is the best food? HI Gina, Basically the vets sell science diet and royal canin, pet shops range from reeeally crap purina to eukenuba etc, and ofcourse theres supermarkets which i would never buy from - champ - tux etc. im looking at the moment at importers of canidae but what i think i will do is buy a bad of canidae and try a couple of other ones that people here have mentioned and see which one she does best on. She is doing really well on the royal canin and now im feeling bad for having fed it to her in the first place - your right we dont have as much variety here in new zealand and royal canin seems to be marketed as 'the best'. Im going to change though! |
