| You better make sure that the breeder knows you will be switching off the raw. Why don't you want to feed a puppy raw? You could also do half and half. Some breeders will agree to not feeding the new puppy raw, but will give you a list of foods that they will recommend. There may be an adjustment period for your puppy....or maybe the breeder could get the puppy started on the food you plan on feeding before the new pup goes home. Gina

| Re: puppy from breeder fed on raw diet will a switch be ok You'd best make sure your breeder knows your plans. If your breeder is any good, you'll have to sign a contract. He or she may very well specify in the contract how the puppy is to be fed. Why won't you feed a raw diet--especially if that's what your breeder wants you to do? |

| Re: puppy from breeder fed on raw diet will a switch be ok IMO, you should really consider the raw diet, the puppy will do much better on it. It can be more work at first but after you get into the routine it really isn't all that much extra work. It's comparable in price to a good quality kibble. Take some time and research both commercial dog foods and the BARF diet. The number 1 reason I like the raw diet is that I know exactly what is going into my Dog.

| Re: puppy from breeder fed on raw diet will a switch be ok Some breeders, including myself, feed the puppies one kibble meal per day, so that the people who do decide to use a quality kibble as opposed to raw don't have such a hard transition. Personally, I would let your breeder know what your plans are (as I also know breeders who won't sell a pup to anyone not feeding raw) and perhaps choose a good kibble NOW, when the time comes that you know what pup is yours, you can give the breeder some food (or see if she will pick some up for you) and feed it to your pup for at least a couple days before leaving. The transition in my experience with baby puppies has been a smooth one, provided they don't go from raw to puppy chow or some other garbage kibble. If you choose a good quality, premium kibble, your pup should be fine. Kristi
